|
|
Ive heard from some of my friends that soft pads (like the one that comes with Ultramix 2) tend to brake or whatever. Then, I look at metal pads, which I hear are super-reliable, but most of them are $100+. Is it really worth paying over $100 for a metal pad? _________________

i don't think its completely necessary, but i have had incredible luck with soft pads. i got the one in the ultramix bundle over a year ago and it still works perfectly to this day. but some people, like me, just prefer to play on metal mats, plus you can wear your shoes when you play. my friend has a generic brand metal mat and the back arrow always breaks, but i just got a red octane metal mat and it works just fine. _________________

Simple Answer: Yes.
But remember: you get what you pay for. So don't be fooled by those $50 metal pads on eBay. And don't get any redoctane ignitions. Those always seem to break for me. |

If you're doing 3 and 4 footer songs, the soft pads are fine. As you progress past that point, you'll find that it'll slip out from under you during the faster songs. Sometimes a missed arrow will cost you the grade.
I recently got a Cobalt and it's REALLY improved my game. There's a period of adjustment from the soft pad to the hard one, but it's no different than going to the arcade.
I wouldn't switch back. |

im getting seriously sick of my soft pad... its held out for at least a month of me beating out 9 footers on it, but it slides all over the place (into woden furniture, under the sofa) which decreases my potential score aproximately 1 letter grade. Go for a metal pad if you're serious about DDR. _________________
