One of the things that influenced my playing DDR, was seeing how many people at the anime conventions I went to liked DDR. DDR is part of the Japanese culture so you can relate it to the influence Anime has. So, has Anime got you into DDR?

DDR is apart of the Japanese culture? It's a fucking videogame......

There's more to the Japanese culture than Cloud Strife and Dragon Ball Z.

Nope, the idea of losing weight, and staying healthy got me into it. It's a great self esteem booster.

w0rd, that's the same for me. I just got in to DDR because it was a fun game that was aesthetically pleasing to the eye at first which drew me in. Then the music and the exercising/fat losing got me more in to it. Now the only thing that's keeping me going is competition to get better at my PA.

Hmmm... I think through DDR I met a lot of people that were really into anime, and I think maybe I've grown to appreciate some more animes I may not have discovered had I not met some friends this way... but I wouldn't say I've become this sudden fan of anime or anything E10.gif . I'm still a video game dork first and foremost E1.gif lol

It was seeing DDR at Anime Iowa in May 2000 that made me aware of its existance. If not for my anime fixation, I likely wouldn't have found the game at all.

To tell the truth, if not for my anime fixation, I'd probably be more into Pump It Up. *heh* My gf and I eat out at Hooters at the Mall of America all the time, and across from it is an arcade with Pump prominently displayed.

I am so there with you. People assume because I play DDR that I love anime. Fact is I loathe anime. Only anime I've ever liked were Sailor Moon (tee hee I was in 4th grade or so and... noooooo Tuxedo Mask! You can't leave!) and Digimon (more of a ploy to rebel against all the Pokemon people, but I actually did get into the show). I didn't start hating anime until I was surrounded by anime nerds that shout out random words in Japanese which just makes me so annoyed. It's become a reflex to yell out "YOU'RE NOT JAPANESE! STOP IT!"

Yes, I like anime. Yes, I like DDR. Neither of them had any influence on how much I liked the other.

When I go to different locations, I feel like I'm watching anime anyway, though. I find all sorts of people with ridiculous clothing and accessories that look like they were pulled straight from a lame excuse for Japanese animation.

Case 1: A tall dark-skinned Asian male wearing goth-like black clothing...along with cat ears and matching tail.

Case 2: A blond, freckle-faced girl with a redneck accent at Cracker Barrel wearing a Hello Kitty T-shirt and eating fried apples with chopsticks. (Post-tournament)

I'd prefer to keep anime out of DDR, thank you.

Anime didn't get me into DDR and in no way I think they are connected. My friends who introduced me and got me into DDR liked anime, but that is just another hobbie that they have. I think they are seperate because DDR is just a video game and anime is just japanesse animation. Just because they are both made in Japan doesn't make them part of every japanesse or japanesse-wannabe's daily life. People have different hobbies and just because something is made in japan not every person who lives in that culture does it or supports it

Anime is probably the worst thing on TV, so no. Anime blows.

You see, I one day saw someone playing on a 5th mix machine--they were playing Lupin' 3rd '78, and I was like, "I have to play this game." If it weren't for the anime, I'd never be playing.
That of course was a complete lie. I like both anime and DDR, but like many others here, neither influences the other.

I love DDR.
I love animé.
Neither have an influence over the other...I play DDR because it's a good self-confidence boost (something I need) and excercise that's more fun than work. And BTW the Azure Heights message board got me into DDR.

Other than the fact that I can recognize the anime song remixes that have appeared on DDR, I have to put myself in the group of people whose like of anime and DDR aren't really influenced by each other. And heck, I'm not even sure I really like anime anymore. The last few anime titles I've watched either really got on my nerves or completely failed to keep my interest.

No... although I got into them at around the same time. I got influenced in both by two different sets of people, and although some of my friends became both anime and DDR lovers, they're still pretty much two seperate entities for me.
