What division should I be in?

Alright so I'm about to go to a tournament and i am having issues deciding whether I should be in the standard or heavy division. Heres the scenario: I can get an A on all 9 footers, even AA some, but if anyone were to choose a ten footer at the tournament I wouldnt even stand a chance of passing it. I feel like I would be sandbagging If I were to enter standard, but all it would take to instantly wipe me out of heavy would be for someone to simply pass a ten footer. Input? Advice? Thnx.

KK if your Aing catas you ARE TOTATLY sandbagging if you go in in the standard catagory. Thats for people that well... DO STANDARDS, be a man go heavy!

It just depends on the other people that'll enter. If it's other people around your level, just go ahead and enter the Heavy division. However, if the other players in your area are psychos who can SDG tens S4R (exaggeration, but you get the idea), then you may want to sandbag on this one.

I thought I was awesome when I got my first few SDG's, but just before I entered the Heavy division of a particular tournament, I saw everyone else in that division "warming up" by AAA'ing nines all morning. It didn't take me long to sign up for the Standard tourney.

From everything I've seen, if you can't even pass a 10, you'd get killed in the Heavy division. It's not even a question of "if" someone will pick a 10 on you... it's a given.

If there's a lower/upper heavy split, you're good for lower heavy. If not, you're probably better off on standard.

Tell you the truth, I say have fun with whatever division. Most people don't bust out the tens until toward the end, unless they feel threatened in heavy. But sometimes standard can get real close. Just have fun with it.

hmmm...in my first serious tourney, I was considering sandbagging down to standard because Matt 300 was going to be there (this is before we became friends). but when I saw the players, I didn't want to make them feel bad by beating them...at the time I could consistantly A max 300 heavy and PS heavy, so it would've been rotten on my part to screw up their tourney.

then heavy division rolls around, and my first round opponent was...Matt 300. lol. he owns me by getting 3 greats on the song that I pick and getting a pad miss on the song that he picked (both hard 9s), black flags the random 3rd song and I forfeited on extra stage when LoM came up.

I got stomped. but I learned from it, and have gained a determination from getting pounded so bad that now I can AA 2 of the hard 10s and have decent PA on nearly all of them. No one enters their first heavy tourney to win unless they have been AAAing stuff on their own for a long time. go for the experience and the drive that you might come out of the tourney with. don't worry about winning. if you really want to get good, you should enter heavy.

What tournament you enter is entirely up to you. The way multi-tier tournaments work is that the easier footers offer lesser value prizes. It is your decision to what prize you want to aim for.

Thnx for the input guys. Tournaments rarely happen at all around my area and this will be my 2nd one. I would take sync's good advice and enter heavy knowing i would lose yet get the experience and drive, but im also thinking I should seize this opportunity because it comes around so rarely and do standard. What ive decided to do is just watch people warming up, judge my competition, then decide which division, and as the utmost priority have fun. (First tourney dude chose ska a go go. I had never even heard the song before, needless to say that didnt go so good)

edit: *slaps self for ignorance* all this time ive not yet considered if they would have a freestyle division. Id have no problem entering that.

I have my fair share of AA's, but most people in my area have 50+ AAA's, shtuff like that. Standard PA for me. Besides, some guy at our last tourney who won the Standard division had a crapload of AA's and some AAA's.

You should enter a heavy division because even if you decide to enter a standard division heavy players are bound to be in it

To me there is no Standard.
I can't do all the Heavy songs but theres dudes in standard that can't do any Heavy songs.

You may not like it but I say Enter Heavy or don't enter at all!
Thats what I do

(Don't neter at all that is).
I know I will not win if I do so I don't!

Not yet any way.
I just play and play its more fun and one day I'll enter Heavy.

If I had a tournament I would only have Heavy! Theres no need for Standard and Light P.A tounaments to me.

Enter the heavy division and have some fun with it. If you don't do so well, you will know what to do next time.

Entering heavy is the only way to go. I've seen too many a tourny get screwed up because of people who should have been in heavy jumping down to standard and whipping everyones buttocks. I have been to at least 4 or 5 tourny's knowing I was going to lose every single one of them and still entered heavy. It's just for fun, its not for the prize. Get the experience, meet the people and have a good time. Dont humiliate the people who aren't as good as you.
