What are some DDR stereotypes that piss you off?

There are two that particularly bug me the most.

Asians are automatically good at DDR/Whites suck at DDR. Even though I'm Filipino myself, it pisses me off when someone talks about how good they are at DDR on the Internet, then are asked if they are Asian. Or, when someone asks for help on the game and one of the responses is somewhere along the lines of "you suck because you're not Asian." Then, when people talk about white men who play DDR, the image that comes to mind is a fat anime-loving, 30-year-old otaku living in his parents' basement. This needs to stop. People like Aaron in Japan, JSB, and Bemaniac show that non-Asians can be good at DDR while at the same time having a life of some sort.

DDR is full of J-Pop and/or techno music. Technically, most of the songs on DDR are poorly done Eurobeat songs, Konami Originals of different genres, and occasional 70's song remixes. J-Pop was not introduced into DDR until 5th Mix, and even today, there are only so many of those songs. As for techno, this happens to be a problem not just in DDR, but among the population in general. People will take any electronica song and label it as "techno." Very few of the songs in DDR (not counting TaQ's songs) are actually techno. Plus, in recent mixes, many of the songs have been rather shitty Dancemania Speed songs and covers of popular American songs.

I can't stand the stereotype that DDR players always get upset when they feel like they're being stereotyped.

But seriously, I can't stand the fact that DDR stereotypes even exist. How much can you define about a person by the fact that they enjoy stomping about on 4 (or 8...or 6) plastic arrows?

I agree with the above-mentioned stereotypes. Especially the asian ones. Being Filipino myself, I get irritated that people immediately think I'm only good at DDR just because I'm asian. It's happened to me quite often at my University. I'll be playing in the lobby, and someone will say, you're only good because you're asian.

Another stereotype that irritates me is that "I'm a girl, so I can't do too well." Everytime I try introducing a girl to the game they'll write it off as being too hard because they are female. Come on, no one is good the first time.

And of course, I laugh everytime someone says DDR teaches how to dance. It teaches 4-directional coordination, but not dancing.

- That if you're really good at DDR then you must be a really good dancer (definitely not true, except personally I am a good dancer )

- When people who don't play the game assume that you memorize all the arrows in a song (C'mon, just because you can't see the arrows when they're moving really fast and clumped together doesn't mean we can't see them at all )

- This really isn't a sterotype, but I just really hate when I'm playing DDR and some people start saying stuff like "Go white boy go!". surprisingly it only comes from a certain "type" of people , I'm sure most of you can figure out what I'm talking about

Im asian but i play like a normal american person. but i see some other asians that does that. sometimes they go next to u and starts to shadow and then do that.

Yes i kno what u talkin bout... one person said:look at that hairy person. i turn around while still playing and i still remember the arrows looking at her at the same time and started to laugh.

-That anyone under 15 is bad at DDR, and will shadow you, pester you, and ruin your games. I'm 12, and it's so rude! I'm not Yasu, but I can still pass some 9 footers, I've managed to pass SSLM and MSL, and never shadow, or interfere while someones playing. Like, one guy was like "May I play by myself?" and I was like "fine" I could tell he was a little suprised that I didn't complain. It was fun watching cause I got to see him do bag on flat. That was cool.

- If people are good at DDR, they should always be worshipped and have people hang onto their nuts.

I am sick of the "girls cant play" stereotype. I am a girl, and I can get AA's on a couple heavy songs. I was at an arcade by myself (for a change) I usually go with my boyfriend %5E%5E;and then people leave me alone. But I was alone and some people playing warcraft three or something started making fun of me when I was waiting for the game to load. But when I started dancing (on heavy) They sort of sheepishly left the arcade.
Also, the whole idea that you have to be asian to be good at DDR Bothers me.
