How old were you, where were you, and were you introduced to it by somebody, or just saw it somewhere and liked it?
I was...12 I think and my friend Alex invited me over his house. He had seen DDR in the store and convinced his mom to buy it. So, he showed it to me, and did a couple songs to show me how it goes, and I was hooked. I must have kept on "trying" to play it all night. It was awesome!
Oh, and it was DDR 1st Mix USA _________________

For me it was a really interesting. I had like 100 dollars that I just won from a online thing, and I was looking for something to buy. My sisters started to tell me that I should buy "that DDR game". I was like "what's that?" so they explained it to me not very well though. I eventually ended up buying 2 pads and MAX2 and I had no idea what the game was just that you step on arrows when they hit the top. From that point on I become in love with the game . |

Well, last year I was playing Magic: the Gathering at my local game store, and in come a few of the local otaku that I'm familliar with and have seen around before. They walk in, pay there money to use the TV for gaming, and plugged their pads. Two of the guys jumped on the pad and started playing light mode to "bumblebee." I was instantly hooked. They let me try a round, even though I was absolutly horrible. Then I asked for it for my b-day, and got it. God times were had by all ever since. I still see these guys rather frequently at our local arcade. They're really nice people. _________________

I was in Las Vegas in Summer 2001, at the New York, New York Hotel. (I was staying at the Monte Carlo, though, not to get confused). Anyways, before I had visited Vegas, I had seen the game in Cali sometimes, but never paid it too much attention. One day I saw this Hawaiian dude playing to the song "Butterfly (Upswing Mix)" and then realized what the name of the game was and the point of it and all. Since rythm comes EXTREMELY easy to me, it was easy to get on the mat and just start playing. The only thing that pissed me off is that when I finally started to like the game, it became hard to find once I came back to Cali. I had to really look around and then I found one in Del Amo Mall at Aladdin's Castle and started playing there, up until the point that they closed down . I started on Basic, and within a month's time I was on Maniac/Heavy mode. Then I found a place near by that had DDR called Gabel House Bowling. They took out extreme and put in this down graded version called DDR Mega Mix, which has all of the songs in Extreme, except the songs in red writing and all... Been playing there ever since, though, but not lately, since I am 8 mos. pregnant now...but as soon as the babe gets here, I'll be right back on the game though... can't wait!!! _________________

My story begins on the Dufferin Terrace in Quebec City, Canada in February 2002. I went down to the glissade [a really, really big slide coated in ice you ride down in a sled] but I forgot my tickets to get onto it, so I just decided to wander around for a bit. I ended up at the local recreatheque [a chain of arcades in Quebec] and tried out DDR. I failed miserably and forgot all about it.
Fast forward to August 2003, Hamilton, Ontario. I was in visiting my friend Jess, who demanded that I try DDR because she'd fallen in love with it. Well, for 8 days I held out against it, but then I finally gave it another shot. This time I actually liked it, and by the end of the month I was playing on my own and introducing other people to it. I still remember that day was Wednesday August 13th. Wow me, for being obsessive! =p |

About a year ago when my manager (EBGames) signed one out. He was bringing it back and b4 the store opened i tryed playing it, i played some 80s song, can't remember what one, on the easiest level and failed. I then waited for DDRMax2 to come out and I grabbed it last year some time b4 X-mas. And not I play all the time. So i would have been 18 then. And I still work at my EB and wait for Extreme (US) to see how good or bad it will be. _________________

I was at an Academic Team tournament at the University of Florida in 2001. We didn't have a round at the moment so I went to the student union/arcade, where I saw a kid playing on standard and I instantly had to try it. _________________

I never got to play Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) until a month later after witnessing the game. I didnt think too heavily about it during those pass three weeks. It was April and other things were on my mind. One day, however, I remember one of my cousins mentioning a DDR game in Nickel Nickel. I wasnt too excited about the fact, still thinking that I would never play the game. My brother, on the other hand; well, it really lured him. DDR had become one of his daily routines, meaning he would go to Nickel Nickel almost every day after school regardless of the events the next day. I can recollect the times when he use to come home very exhausted telling me the levels he passed and Id congratulate him. That thought of him giving me a congratulations had never crossed my mind until I finally stepped foot on that metal platform in Nickel Nickel. But this platform was rather different than the one I saw in Las Vegas. Instead of the usual up, down, left, and right arrows, there were also two extra diagonal arrows; one pointing northeast and the other northwest. From that, I knew Konami was compensating for something; they were trying to make the game tougher than it was before. For those who have improved their skills in the game, I thought, this is for you. But it wasnt long until I realized that using those two extra arrows were optional and didnt have to be used unless selected. Knowing that, it calmed down my nerves and I was in a lower state of nervousness. It began to reach its peak again when I finally heard the song playing. I could hear those fake cheers in the back round of the game and it inspired me to pass the level. The first arrow had ascended to the top of the screen and I missed. It slightly discouraged my confidence so I attempted to try again, but I didnt get it. I was beginning to feel a rush of annoyance, thinking it wasnt me that was missing, just the platform not functioning correctly. I failed the song, and I began to blame the platform for not doing its job well. I couldnt admit it was my skills that had failed me. I tried not to be downgraded from the experience considering it was my first time playing. As unhappy as I was, I sat down next to the game and watched my cousin play. He was able to pass it and encouraged me to try again. This time, with my mistakes in mind, I was able to complete the stage. From then on, my DDR days had begun.
(Sidenote) If I remember correctly, I was about 11-12 at the time. _________________

Face first... I was kidnapped by a bunch of my buddies and shoved onto a machine, well I kept on going forwards and bam! I face planted the screen... no, but I wish.
I went into Wonderland the place was empty, so I wandered around playing the various game there when I seen a huge behemouth of a machine parked in the corner... whats this? its all in chinies oh well after guessing and pushing random buttons on the front of the machine it flashed its lights at me... cool. An image of the floor pops up, arrows scroll up the screen... ok arrows scroll so what do I do. A buch of green letters came up. Hitting the little trangle buttons moved the green letters Do you remember me? Swing it! Boom Boom Doller(K.O.G.G3Mix) End of the Century this looks good... I push the green start button the screen goes black, the lights flash at me... ahhh it blinded me! after my eyes readgested the same little arrows start there little jaunt up the screen. Oh ok it showed me this befor. *step step* click? I start to push the buttons on the front of the machine 27 arrows later a Failed screen greats me.
I watch the demo screen again oh maybe you step on the arrows on the floor thingy... I push a start button the game, it starts up the usual scrolling arrows thing, pick a color letters thing, swting it! I do belive, close eyes to not get blinded at start of game step around on floor and... hello Failed screen.
Mybe the lights have something to do with the arrows... as the arrows scrolled up the lights flashed yes thats it! it follows the flashing lights! I try one more time armed with new info on the flashing lights game I give it a go blink/step, blink/step heh yeah I got you now you little arrows I passed that Century thing along with Swing it!, Ooops! I did it was too much for me I got halfways thruog it when that Failed screen showed up.
I was lated told that the machine plays music, how do you play/follow the steps. I told them the lights blink in time/rythem to the arrows.
Als kinda deaf so he didn't know this was a music game. _________________
