The nerve of this "coach." The website is called Kidz World, and look at the language he's using! "Tub of Lard?" No wonder I got picked on in elementary school for being the fat kid. _________________

Obviously that guy has never passed a song before. Trust me folks, if guys sawing logs in half is broadcast on ESPN as a sport, in a few years so will DDR. Just give some time for the dumb old people in the way to die. |

dont tell me im a killjoy, but hell no. Its a game. Look what happened to skateboarding. 3 year old kids are walking around wearing Hawk showes and i say that blows. I hope no one does this, but there are people who play counter strike for a living. They literally play counterstrike for like 10 hours a day. than they go to compotitions and get interviewed and kids are like "OMG J00 MY H3RO!!!!111" and the vicious cycle continues. I hope that people arent like that with DDR. Kepp it fun, dont make it an obsession. So, it'll always be a a game, and a totally kickass game at that. _________________

DDR is no more of a sport than Para Para is.
It's a video game with physical activity. That doesn't mean it suddenly qualifies for a high school team, a professional league, or Olympic events. _________________

This guy is like saying that DDR is going to make you fat....
I think it's an opinion...I consider DDR a sport. You may not, and have other beliefs, so leave me alone and I'll leave you alone too. |

i wouldnt say that at all. u cant just consider certain songs sport and teh rest not ya silly goose *huggles* ^___^ its just as much of a "sport" getting to 9-10 footers as it is actually playing them ^__^ thats like saying soccer is only a sport if u play it in a pro league ^___^
but personally, i dont consider it a sport. ^___^ _________________

It's not a sport, IMO.
While cases can be made that there are competitions with money and prizes at stake (therefore, making it a sport), it's still a game.

Then why isn't Beatmania IIDX a sport? It seems to have gotten quite competitive lately, there are certainly a set of rules that you must follow, and you move your fingers a lot, which would be considered physical activity.
How about ParaParaParadise? Or DanceManiaX? Or Guitar Freaks? Or Drummania? They all require physical activity, and as long as they go by a scoring system, they are all going to have people competing against each other, somewhere.
In that case, why not have ALL videogames that have a scoring system and require you to move at least one part of your body be considered a sport? _________________

they would have to do it to understand. I get told on a regular basis by meatheaded jocks that mountain biking isn't a sport...but then again a lot of it is stereotypes. most mountain bikers are either downhillers who are a bunch of yahoos (in most cases) or the xc riders (like me) who wear spandex and look like wannabe lance armstrongs (not me I wear baggy shorts and still kick buttocks^_^)...it's all opinions of ignorant people, thats all
oh and I think ddr is a great activity and could very well be considered a sport (poker on espn? c'mon now) _________________

Ive always thought about it, What if ddr actually did appear on espn. it'd be pretty cool to see.
But back to the subject, in a way i do kinda consider it a sport..Just like track and cross country, Your running except on ddr..your doing it in place and in rhythm.
Then again. It's still just a video game and just like the article Is trying to point out."Hey If we have one video game a sport..why not make the rest of these video games a sport" _________________

DDR's a video game.
Then again, according to my school, Karate is not a sport...it's a "martial art"...dunno wat kind of credit that kind of art is gonna give me though, lol. If Karate is not a sport, then DDR is definately not one.
Hey, my fingers exercise when I play other video games, can those be considered sports too? _________________

DDR is definately a sport if they consider that fast walking (not sure if you guys seen this before, you must have one foot touching the ground at least) a sport in the olympics. It's lame. _________________

That stupid guy in the link on the first post wrote: | If we start to consider a game like Dance Dance Revolution to be a sport, then it's only a matter of time before pinball, virtual skateboarding, and Yu-Gi-Oh are given sport status. Once that happens, it won't be long before some fat, slobby, Dorito-pounding tub of lard with chocolate dripping down his face and calluses on his thumbs, makes it on the cover of Sports Illustrated because he managed to make it to the 5000th level of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. |
I think that particular part was ridiculous. Hell, to me, it seems like this guy's opinion is one-sided, and that he'd manipulate any argument to get his point across...
So if I understand this... if a physical, intense activity as DDR (which is basically aerobics guided by a computer system) is labeled a video game, then, by this argument only, it goes to the same physical level as pinball and other video games? This is, I repeat, ridiculous. I don't know if aerobics are considered a sport, but if it is, then I don't think DDR shouldn't be considered like that ONLY because a computer assists you gameplay-wise.
However, I don't think it would be in Konami's advantage to make DDR a sport... _________________
