why don't you try doing your OWN research since it is YOUR research paper. _________________

If your class, more importantly, your teacher asks you, "What's DDR and how do I play it?" How would you explain it in a research paper?
Answer that question and go from there.
If you can't write at least three pages on what DDR is, the arcade versions, different gameplays, styles of playing, and grading scales, pick another topic.
On a related note, if I had the choice to do any writing assignment, I'd at least know the background and other information, so I could do as little "painful" research as possible. If you don't know a lot about the subject, but think it's "cool," it's going to be a bad experience.
My $1.00 - $0.98.

And if you write a paper like the poster above, expect a bad grade.
Oh, and nobody will care about your stats. It's a research paper on the game Dance Dance Revolution not how good you are at it.

Go to ddrfreak's home page and scroll down a while. There should be a link to a report about DDR by a guy at Stanford. I read it, and there's a lot of good info there that you could put into your report, especially explaining the types of DDR communites. _________________

Well thanks I guess
Its actually a simple research project
I just need some info.
Mostly all my teacher said was to make a presentation using a chart and well I have so many things to put on there like step charts and pics of DDR
Its just that I needed some info. in the game
Well anyways I think I had enough info. but if you have any tell me please
So thanks _________________

Ummm.... when a teacher tells you you need to use a chart, I don't think a stepchart is the sort of thing they have in mind. |

What he said..a chart is supposed to be like..a graph of statistics put into easy readable form, not a bunch of arrows on a piece of paper that no one will understand. |

Here's what I'd do, but I'm not in 8th grade and I don't live in the US, although I don't think it makes much of a difference...
Well, I don't know exactly what you're teacher is expecting, but when you want to talk about something, it's (almost) always a good idea to start from a problematic (does that word exist in english ? lol), which is basically a question you ask about the subject, and then do resarches to answer it.
If you start gathering info about the subject and then throw them in your paper, you might have lots of useless information, and it won't be very interesting. At the end of your presentation or when the reader is done reading, you don't want him to say "and so what ?", you want him or her to say "cool, I never thought about it" or "wow, I wanna try it now"
Here I guess the question could be "what makes DDR different from other games ?", "why is DDR lasting so long ?" (almost 10 years, and more versions than I can count !). Or maybe something a little more original and controversial like "is DDR a sport ?" or "can you get addicted to DDR ?"... I don't know, just try to find an interesting question (ie : more interesting than 90% of the topics you can find here... "do girls play DDR" is not a good question for example :-P)
Then answer your question : yes or no, you probably have an opinion (well if you don't, pick another subject).
Well at this point, you have like 2 lines on your paper or talked for about 30 seconds, but most of the work is already done. All you have to do now is use the info you gathered to prove your point. You may (and should ?) argue both sides, but end on your opinion : Remember you want to prove your point.
OK, now things I think you may want to emphasize :
- Origins and background (comes from japan, when it started, when it came to america, other Bemani, blah blah blah)
-The Community (different aspects : on the net, irl, tournaments, meeting people at the arcade etc.)
-Different kinds of players (casual players, scorers, stylers...)
-Originality of the game : mainly the fact that you don't just sit in your chair with your controler, you have to move your body ^^ (call it sport or not, you still burn calories), plus the community and the music, which make it so addictive.
but I think you should NOT talk to much about the game itself, people either know how it works, or won't understand what's so great about stepping on arrows. Of course you've got to tell how you play etc. as an introduction because otherwise you can't understand the rest, but just don't make it half your work.
Well, hope that can help you. Now I don't have much info about the game, but I think google and your own experience can help ^^
btw, what's 8th grade ? |

It's the grade after 7th and before 9th and it can either rock hard or suck ass. _________________

First of all, why are you doing a report so late in the year? You must've been putting it off for a loooong time...
Anyway, being an 8th grader, I wouldn't do my project on a video game, especially one like DDR. Don't get me wrong, I love and live it, but I don't really want everyone in my team to know that I spend $10 a week stomping arrows. But that's just me.
You're at one of the greatest places to find info on DDR, but you may also want to check out ddruk.com (and click on the "Have you never played before?" links).
For a chart, I'd get some pictures of a DDR machine, some of the more famous artists to do songs for DDR, and step charts for bag on Heavy and Beginner (the difference is HUGE) to show just how varried and difficult steps can get. Hope that helps some. |
