|
|
Heyo all,
The youth group at my church has a large get together every friday. When I say large I guess I mean small. Its going to be about 20 or 30 people between the ages of 12 and 19. We have a HUGE screen that we're going to play on with only one system, DDRMAX2, and 2 of the soft pads.
First problem is, none of these people have ever played DDR outside of myself.
Second problem, though non-slip mats this is going to be played on a tile floor.
I need lots of suggestions for making this interesting, and do-able, for newbies.
Thanks for your time!

You shoud really get metal pads for better experience. The tile floor will frick those soft pads up, try to get a wooden plank to tape under the pads so it wont move much.Or get 2 ignition pad they cost about $40 at ebay.
And make a little tournament just for fun, with freestyle. |

Well, for my opinion, since your other party-goers are beginners, I think soft pads will just be fine. Since most Light songs aren't very quick, your pads shouldn't bunch up too quickly. Just readjust the pads once a while.
On another note, everytime I have friends over to play DDR, we get very tired and thirsty, so HAVE REFRESHMENTS!!!! If people are going to play DDR for a while, be sure to have some water around or something. _________________

Soft pads are actually harder to learn on, in my opinion. I've seen many newbies hitting the top left and top right portions of the mat and wondering why they're getting Misses. Of course, we're talking about people who've never played DDR, so I doubt they'll be slipping all over the pad.
Okay, getting back on topic, yes, water or any kind of refreshment is a must. You may also want to bring towels, since one my local arcades provides them, and they're VERY useful. This may sound a bit overkill, but a whiteboard or piece of paper and pen couldn't hurt, especially if it starts getting really popular. Keeping track of a 20-30 person queue is tough.
That's all I can think of. Have a fun time Just don't play anything by E-rotic _________________

you can always try and rent a machine from a local arcade, it'll run you about 200-300 bucks, but it makes for one hell of a party. |

I've been to a similar thing at a church before... I think they got like this giant floor mat thing and put the pad on top of that. It worked pretty well. It was an all night thing and I actually ended up playing DDR for about 6/8ths of the time. The only thing is that we where going to a meeting or some praying thing and to be quite frank I'm not religeous In fact the only reason I was there was because a friend invited me and they needed to use some of my equipment in order for them to even have DDR. So I was about to pass Maxx Unlimited for the first time on Heavy and she pulls me off the pad because she wouldn't wait another 20 seconds for the song to end Other than that it was really good |

Important things:
Air circulation. You need this. For the love of God.
A fan or more. One should be pointed at the pads. Also, towels and a can or two of spray deorderant.
Tape those pads to the floor!
A LOT to drink. Beginners especially get tiring.
You need food. It is crucial you pick foods that are safe for DDR, meaning nothing that'll make you puke. Greasy foods and sweet or sugary foods need to be avoided. You might want to try dry potato chips, pretzels, etc. NO PIZZA
A tip sheet for begginners explaining how the game works, foot ratings, basic technique (no riverdancing, alternating feet etc.), and a list of songs that are 1's, 2's and 3's on beginner and light.
Something else to do. |

Man I used to do that at my church but then we have a small 27 incher TV.. '_' And the aircon was blasting cold so pretty much it was sorta hard to play.
Air circulation : Keep aircon to waaaayy minimum. Too much cold air might make ya breathe hard. At least two or three fans would do.
Drinks : at least either water, fruit punch, soft drinks, etc. NO SODAS!!!
Play : yes the soft pad will suck even if it says " non slip" Ignition pads would really work wonders if you don't have the metal pad. And since if the DDR MAX 2 you have is the US one, at least you got the begginner mode with it for newbies to the thing.
Area : If the space looks cramped...good luck handling people to play on it
I guess that's all i can come up with |
