I've heard some weird stuff about BMIII, and there wasn't any "official BMIII" thread so I started this one. What's the difference between BM3 and BM/BMIIDX? Thanks in advance.

Here are the pics:

Full Machine
Controls

They're pretty big (1600x1200, 300KB) so I posted a link. Plus, the server is being weird right now so you might have to wait for the pics to load.

BM III is closer to regular BM 5-key than IIDX. The only real differences are

-New hardware
-Higher-res graphics
-MUCH better sound quality (mainly due to way better speakers)
-More memory to hold much more songs than BM (I think it has a bigger HD), BM III usually has BM Core, Complete Mix 1, Complete Mix 2, and all the previous Mixes installed (i.e. if you have BM 7th, it'll also have BM6th and BM Core; BM The Final has BM6th, BM7th, and BM Core Remix).
-Effector pedal, which some songs actually use as part of the gameplay (think of DrumMania's bass pedal). Also tons of other effector options to screw around with and mess with your sound settings while you play.
-A 3.5" floppy drive. Maybe to save scores, but I don't know anyone that's done it yet.
-Turntable and keys have a much better feel to them (turntable: smoother and easier to turn than BM or IIDX's, the keys are a bit lower profile I believe...unless I just played on machine like such).

I can't think of anything more =P

Overall, I love BMIII machines~

The floppy drive saves scores, and IS THE only way you can obtain Free mode or SOZAI (sp?) mode. Plus, it also saves your expert scores as well.

Also, the machine comes with headphones jacks w/volume adjustment. There have some cases where the jacks don't work at all. So give this a test first on your first song.

Where is this machine?

Please don't say Boston (just cuz I'm way too far away from that)...

By the way, here is a sample save file that's generated from the BM3 floppy save. The machine makes pure .txt files, isn't that nice? : )

Oh goody.

1000 miles and 15 hours away from me. *screams*

Well, thanks, and I hope you play the living hell out of that machine.

About the floppy save - I played BMIII at my local arcade, put in a blank floppy disk, but when I got back home the disk was still blank. Is there a certain way I need to save scores? BTW I failed my last song, would that affect the save?

Been to that machine in Funworld - it was having a few key problems on that day, but I heard they were fixed since then.

The headphone jacks work beautifully - every fucking Bemani game should have these - ESPECIALLY Pop'n Music ;_;

Their keys work beautifully now. But, what about saving on floppies?

mck: It should save onto the floppy disk, even if you fail your song.

That a first I heard about this problem. Try it again with a different floppy and don't auto format it before hand. Just use it as it is. If the same thing happens again, than replace it another floppy drive.

It has a headphone jack AND an effector pedal?! *runs to arcade to play*

Personally, this is the only Beatmania machine I have ever played on.

I never autoformatted it. I just bought an Office Depot IBM format disk, and never put it into anything until the Beatmania III machine. I put in my quarters, started to select a song, and then remembered to put in the floppy disk. The second time, I put the disk in before I put in my quarters.I don't know if it's just my old screw up PC that i'm testing the floppy on, but there was never any new files I saw.

EDIT: I saw the file above that it should save, posted by dog$, but his is an expert file. I never used expert mode, I used the first one (medium, I think?). Would that affect it?

It should also be noted that beatmania III has some pretty rockin' exclusive tunes.

The "How to play" track with dj Konami kicks much ass.

Best mode : I think it was called Tsunagi mode (4 song nonstop).

Also, it has some pretty kick @$$ songs from IIDX 3rd Style as well (Reincarnation [a] = BLEAH, 5 key hell).

I've seen others, if I can find 'em, I have pics of BM III Append 6th, BM III (the first), BM III Append Core, and BM III Append 7th (lighting up, the entire machine setup, including the pedals).

Core Remix is the only one I didn't play, but the others were. Loved 'em.
