Me and theazn have been wondering whats the problem with the pad.
After 5-30min the controller where the pad is soldered burns up.
We went through 3 different controllers now, one is a official PSX controller.
the pad is used only on pc with psx->usb converter. _________________

Listen, man, I had the exact same problem. I mean, I was in the exact same shoes as you. The USB converter has nothing to do with it. The problem is that too much voltage is passing through to the directional buttons. Solder to the Circle, X, Square and Triangle buttons. They have higher resistance, and you can program StepMania to only recognize those buttons for directions. _________________

I have never heard of circuit boards burning just because you use the directional buttons. I have a homemade pad hooked up to an official Dualshock 1 controller, and I've never had problems with it connected to a playstation or a PSX-USB adapter. Are you an experienced, careful and neat solderer? Because, if anything, the official one should have worked fine.
since you've gone through so many, if you aren't totally sure your soldering is correct, maybe it'd be wise to get someone else to do it.
