DWI won't read my pad. plz help

I got a thing to hook my plastation pad to the computer with my pad through the printer port (yes the printer/com (com i think it is) port) it wont read that it is there i tried cofiguring it from the game, i tried having my comp look for it but nothing works, i donno if i need some kind of game card or what but please help cuz I really want this to work. I have a compq presario 5000 if that helps.

go to control panel/game controllers (or somthin like that) and see if its there, if not, you probably didnt install it correctly.
