Everyone knows a DDR game was released for Game Boy Color. I haven't played it myself, but my friends said they might as well played DDR USA Mix.

Well technology's better and now we have the Game Boy Advance E13.gif
Or GBA SP for the up-to-date people E7.gif

So if Konami made a DDR for the GBA, would you buy it (import or not)?
Heck if a link attachment is required to go with it, I'd still buy it! E4.gif

I remember that old Mary-Kate and Ashley one. I think it was called Girls Night Out or something like that. It was cool because it had some good songs, and you also could create your own character. Well, they only had Mary-Kate or Ashley, so I guess only 2. Well, 1 since they're twins. tongue.gif But, you could get new clothes and all that, and it was cool.

If DDR was to come to the GBA or whatever, I'd DEFINITELY get it! I'm just wondering how well the songs would sound like.

Well, I don't know anybody else around here who plays DDR, and since I only get to the arcade once a week, I'd like to be able to play DDR when I'm not there.

Look at it this way, if it at least has some "decent" songs then it's worth getting for long trips, waiting in long lines, etc. E7.gif

These are the main reasons why the Game Boy was invented and I certainly would like to take advantage of every aspect of that E1.gif

I just wonder how many songs max can a GBA cartrage can hold E19.gif

I'm not sure a portable DDR would work nowadays, with today's handhelds being mostly horizontally oriented. Granted, the GBA SP is vertical, so the snap-on finger pad attachment could work for that.

Beyond that, though, is the issue of sound quality, which is where this question comes in:
Quote:

I've played a couple of GBA games that feature vocal tracks as music (Aggressive Inline and Need for Speed Underground, for those interested), and the music isn't that great. It's very tinny and low quality, most of the time it's just a snippet of the song rather than the whole thing, and there aren't that many.

Breaking it down into megabits, GBA games on average are 32-128 megabits. A 128 megabit cartridge breaks down to about 16 megabytes. That'd be room for about a dozen MP3s, maybe 10-11 when you take game code and graphics into account. If you used synthesized music (like music from Genesis and SNES games), you could probably fit quite a bit more into the game. If you were willing to go without lyrics, you could probably get a decent number of good instrumental tracks in there. If anyone thinks I'm wrong on this (I'm just sort of guessing from experience, after all), feel free to correct me.

If Konami could pull it off, it wouldn't hurt to have only songs without vocals on a GBA port:

Max 300, bag, exotic ethnic, GRADIUSIC CYBER...I could go on, but I have a brainfreeze and can't think of much more.

I'd like to see a modified 5thMIX skin come into play here. 5thMIX hasn't been used in the US yet, and the color scheme works well. Just blow things up, and simplify it.

I'd pick it up immediately if Konami made said product, but they'd prolly won't. Ever. frust.gif

As long as it had MAX. or PSMO, I'd go right now and buy both the game AND a GBA to play it on!

(lafs to self thinking about how funny those songs would sound....)

Also, the MIDI version of bag kicks buttocks. I'd love to see that one too!

Commenting on Kunio573, it is possible to ADD more memory to the GBA cartrages. If anyone has played those GBC games with the rumble feature, you can see they added extra "room" just for the rumble feature.

If they can replace that same area with memory (because you don't need rumble with DDR), then vola E13.gif

About the sound bit, well the GBC DDR only used "beeps"

e.g. "Boom Boom Boom Boom" (for Boom Boom Dollar) is just "beep beep beep beep"

And the background just had a really cheesy stick figure dancing. But despite, cheesy music isn't that bad (of course I wouldn't expect "beeps" nowadays). It's a GBA, not like you can ask for a lot.

Although the GBC DDR wasn't that great, it does make a point that if it was possible back then, and with the GBA now available, it's possible now with improvements. And besides, no one really needs an "animated" background. A still picture is fine enough (people accept it on Stepmania).

See, the biggest problem with the SP and DDR going together is the lack of a headset jack. You'd have to listen to the music on the cruddy speakers on the unit itself. That's the major advantage of having a regular GBA. I think they really should make a DDR for the GBA, but what would it be called? DDR GBA? Too simple. Portable Dance Revolution? No. DDR Go!? It would probably be something like that here in the US.

Well there's not only the GBA ya know.

The Neo Geo Pocket is making a come back and the N-Gage is also out there (I didn't say I support these).

Also, whoever said Konami has to make for a main party company? Konami can just make a "separate" hand-held device to just play DDR alone. OR they can make their own next generation hand-held E13.gif
