Is this normal?

Hi, I read in the faq that it's hard to start II DX, and you need to practice a lot. When I played my first time at the Christmas of Fire, I was really good, like 3 and 4 star songs. Is this natural?

Maybe. Was that when you JUST STARTED or after a couple of hours? And are you talking Light7 or normal 7 Key?

I got to 3 and 4 star songs (on normal) after a few hours of playing. You might be talking about 3+4 star songs on light 7, or you might just be pretty good.

One thing's for sure: 7's are more than twice as hard as 4's, and that's a modest statement. Don't think you're more than halfway through the game...

It can be normal. The progression depends on your experience in a lot of things. It's certainly possible to be able to pick up IIDX and be able to play a lot of middle difficulty things on L7, although rare. Most players will be able to do so after a couple hours of play. So you're progressing well, but I'm sure others have picked the game up and gotten the hang of it almost immediatly, too. If you played 5-Key, I'd expect you to be about that good, at least, also.

I sorta depends. Were you doing 5-key? Light 7? Regular 7?

If you were doing 5-key, then not VERY abnormal, but maybe a little. It depends on whether you've played Beatmania before.

If it was Light 7, than no, completely normal. Hell, I was almost doing 6 star songs the first time I played IIDX on Light 7.

If it was regular 7, than it's about 50/50. I, personally, had to work up to regular 7, but I've seen others start right off on regular 7 and do fine, up to 4 and 5 star songs.
