Ok, the other BNS thread is just getting too off-topic and too much flaming going around so I have this thread. Anyways I got this pad through an auction from this seller http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3055848520&category=21185
At the time I didn't know it was a BNS pad. So I asked to pick it up since I was near Cal State Pomona at the time. When I got to the pickup place, I noticed it was a BNS shop of sort. In all this costs me 118 bucks because of cali Tax and the 10 dollar pick up fee added to that. Also, I saw one of these pads in the shop with the panels off and it looks exactly like the contacts and the inside of the RO in the RO thread. Not sure that's a good thing but I had money to burn.
Me and my pal got it back to his place and we opened this up and see the pics below.
Here's the pad in its plastic wrapping and that frikken annoying sticky crap on the arrows!!!
Here's the control box. nothing too snazzy
Here's the corner of the pad showing the thickness and that weird nonstick stuff on the bottom.
That's my pal trying to peel that crap off the arrow!
LOL.. faaabulous lights
My score on an easy 7 footer
My score on a 9 footer (i honestly suck at Cartoon heroes... 70 greats and 6 misses and a few goods and boos.)
Ok. I'll keep you guys updated on how the pads go. There is still that darn sticky residue on the arrows so any help with that would work. When I eventually have to clean this sucker, I'll take a pic of the inside.
Overall, took me a few songs to get used to. The buttons don't really get pressed down too much but enough. I have to hit more towards the middle then I would like. My style of play like to use the very edges of the arrows. Kinda messed me up while doing neo-naoki oni. For now, it's generally responsive. For 120 bucks not too bad. Eventually I gotta open up this thing to fix it up a lil.
Also I left the right corner pad's sticky stuff #2, the X button, and the middle panel sticky stuff to stay on since it's annoying the blue hell outta me. |

Wow. Thats odd. From what I heard, it uses the same contact system as a CF, and this is not an issue.
Good review, and keep us updated. |

Gosh aren't you impatient. Too bad you are banned.
Like I said before, it looks like the insides of the RO. |

So, he was lying the whole time? It almost makes me wish he wasn't banned, to hear what he has to say about these contacts. |

It seems very similar to the Red Octane metal pad especially the way the insides look. LOL, it even has the annoying sticky crap (when it comes out of the box) similar to the ROs. I saw a video of someone using the RO and it actually sounds similar to this pad except this pad is somewhat quieter. Not by much. Anyways, it said it has poly-carbonate panels and I wouldn't know what is acrylic and polycarbonate (someone can help me distinguish or identify it?).
Also, I have a video of me playing on it, just don't have a place to upload a 8 meg video.
It's a good buy for 120 bucks IMO so far. |

how does the pad feel? is it sturdy, or does it feel like it will break. My pads were supposed to come yestarday but stupid fedex. it looks as if Crypto either lied about owning the pads or he jus lied to save himself the embarassment of the pads actually sucking. Damn i hope it wont break in 2 weeks. _________________

When did crypt get banned? I really would like to read what he has to say about the pad now . It seems like when it comes to metal pads, CF is the way to go. |

Yeah, a pad like that may seem like its good for the first couple of weeks but give it time and it'll die. Probably in a month or two |

The pad felt sturdy to me. I had money to burn so I could care less what happens to this pad. I wonder if I can replace that silly foil thingy once it starts going bad. |

Hmm. I am considering getting a pad, and that one seems cheap, and it actually ships internationally. There are a few concerns I do have though:
1. Is that pad okay on carpet? I have a hard plastic surface (like the ones you use for computer chairs which I can use, but I do NOT want the frame bending or anything like that (though.. at ~100lbs, nothing much gunna break)
2. Is it like the arcade? Like, the feel and stuff?
3. When you say that this pad will break, define break. Because as far as i've heard, most breaks with metal pads are repairable with some work and a lil bit of cash.

My house is hardwood floor all around. However, I feel the metal frames around the pad will prevent it from bending.

Well, no metal pad out there is EXACTLY like the arcade. It'll take a few songs to get used to. The arrows are sorta flush with the pad but they press down a bit

I think the inside of the arrows will start acting funky sooner or later. But I enjoy fixing stuff and I'll find my own way of fixing it. I don't think the arrow panels itself would break at all btw. |

Okay, and when you said that you had to press really close to the center, how close is really close? And will the transition between this pad and the arcade be tough? Like if you use this at home and go to the arcade will it be really weird?

My gosh, that thing looks almost exactly like the RO pad I payed over $100 more for. Just replace the X and O graphics with solo arrow graphics and add three inches to the back of the pad and you've got an RO. They even use the same styrofoam packaging. |

Odd. I can press down with a pencil anywhere on the arrow with my RO and have it register.
Otherwise, it DOES sound a lot like the RO. Odd x2. |

::Looks at shipping price:: ::Shudder::
I want a metal dance pad, but it ani't happening. I'm so broke.
In California, when DDR first came out in U.S., the metal dance pads were just 70 bucks. WTF happened now that I need one?
I'ma going to the mall... _________________

Lemme say how simple repair is. Since the RO and BNS use the same exact contact system, it is the same to repair. Eventually the foil on the top will start cracking and flaking after awhile. The time varies, but the arrow will stick. You'll notice by the lights being on that specific arrow all the time. Unscrew at least two of the corner joints around and slide the arrow out, wipe all the foil off the circuit. Guess what? Plays just like new now! I've yet to see any more serious problems, but my RO went down several flights of stairs unguided. A giant 40lb metal square leaves a big mark...
But I do really think a lot of people aren't gonna buy these pads due to the contact system when just 5 minutes of repair work every few months for much cheaper. You can get two BNS for the price of a CF, right?
Sorry, and yet not sorry to say that cheaper, effective pads are starting to show up. Frankly, we all want cheap and sturdy.
Enjoy your pad! _________________

Update: I've been playing on it quite a bit on heavy mode for almost a week. It's been holding up well in tough 9 footers. When the contacts start acting up, I think this mod will be suitable: http://home.1asphost.com/cyphergamesmod/ |
