I'm helping out on a friend's radio show (Bemani radio in the morning), and was thinking of a segment where we play and talk about the top 15 FS songs, based on music, steps, and popularity/usage in tournaments (i.e. Kind Lady's good, but it won't make the top 15 thanks to a) its stupid 4 foot Light steps, and b) the fact that I've seen one person do it so far, and that was an improv).

The list I've made...

15) So Fabulous, So Fierce
14) A Minute
13) Sana Morette Ne Ente
12) Gotcha
11) On the Jazz
10) era
9) Baby Baby Gimme Your Love
8) Stomp to My Beat
7) Highs Off U
6) Let the Beat Hit 'Em
5) Spin the Disc
4) Long Train Runnin'
3) Luv to Me
2) Brilliant 2U/OG
1) Dynamite Rave

(edit: Yeah, 511's outta there. And Wendell, how could I neglect those last three)

This is REALLY tough and there's no way to get a right answer, but...your thoughts?

Ooh, Let's Groove...of course, how could I leave off that one after your unforgettable routine.

I'm just sort of going off of videos/community usage rather than personal opinion here...like, Make Your Move/Never Let You Down are kickass songs, but I've barely seen any routines to them. *sigh*

I've never seen a routine to Don't Stop.

I think everyone remembers 8-ball and Samantha's Synchronized Love, and well I guess I could plug Drifting Away here too.

And then there is the HyperBroken "540 kick of doom" for Trip Machine.

Those are the memorable ones for me. Maybe not popular songs, but definitely memorable.

I think it's rather silly to leave off Dynamite Rave and include 5.1.1, in all honesty.

Dynamite Rave may be played out to all hell, but that sort of automatically includes it in the "top FS songs of all time".

Otherwise, it's just a "these are the songs I think are good for FS" list.

I'll have to agree. Strictly Business is probably the pinnacle of freestyle songs.

...that, and The Reflex. E10.gif

Strictly Business is the song everyone wants to do, but can't because the steps aren't all that nice, and there isn't a machine with that song that has memory cards where we can make an edit for it.

If you were to emphasize tournament usage, then hands down the most used song is Luv To Me from 3rd Mix, with Dynamite Rave a close second, and Brilliant2U Orchestra Groove a near third.

While many a person hate Butterfly, it is still one of the most freestyled and easily freestylable songs.

I did a Don't Stop routine for SVGL2. Sad to say, the only other person I've seen freestyle it in a tourny is Fury from Omaha at the Sacramento tourny in Nov. 2002.

I would put Let the Beat Hit Em over Highs Off U. I believe Gotcha should move up, because the steps are much more memorable.

However, you gotta give respect to the slow songs, like Byul, After The Game of Love, Baby Baby Gimme Your Love, and most definitely Let's Talk It Over.

And please add Don't Clock Me... as much as no one has done freestyle on Solo 2000...it's still one of the most freestyleable songs available that a lot of people want to do. Then again, I want to do a performance to Freaky...

Then again, somewhere, somehow...I will be on a DDR machine where I can play Been So Long & The Rhyme Brokers.

JSB did one on Don't stop. Back on topic... uh..

1) Spin The Disc
2) 5.1.1.
3) Long Train Running
4) Let's Groove
5) Mobo Moga

Eh, Can't think of anymore.

I'm a derp for forgetting this song. This song has been played way before Luv To Me, Dynamite Rave, and Brilliant 2U/OG.

BOOM BOOM DOLLAR.

The first highly overplayed freestyle song back when we were only blessed with 1.5 mixes in the United States. It was easy song to learn, and it had routines done to it by Azn Innovation's bite of the Koshiro Shuffle, Rock Bottom Dollar by DJ 8-ball, and done way before by southern California folks in March of 2000.

I think as a suggestion we should consider what were the popular songs on each mix, then compare notes and come up with the top 15 from there.

Here is my opinion of the most used songs in tournaments separated by mixes used in tournaments in northern California:
(note: If a song has been already listed, then it will be skipped for mixes after)

DDR US 1st:
1 - Boom Boom Dollar
2 - Butterfly
3 - Brilliant2U Orchestra Groove
4 - Put Your Faith In Me
5 - My Fire

DDR USA:
1 - Luv To Me (AMD Mix)
2 - Stomp To My Beat
3 - Dynamite Rave
4 - Afronova
5 - Silent Hill (most wanted to play it on Maniac)

DDR 3rd verKorea2:
1 - Dam Dariram
2 - Caution
3 - Do It All Night
4 - Sung Suk
5 - Beautiful 21C

DDR 4th Plus:
1 - Let The Beat Hit 'Em
2 - Let's Talk It Over
3 - After The Game Of Love
4 - Superstar
5 - Gotcha
6 - era
7 - Baby Baby Gimme Your Love
(why it was a rare sight to see Get Up And Dance, I do not know...then again we all bowed down to the Brilliant Steppers)

DDR 5th:
1 - Matsuri Japan (Trick Little was everyone's best friend for this song)
2 - Ecstasy (albeit not done well, but played much)
3 - Mr. T (take my higher)
4 - Cafe (was done more on this mix than 4th plus)
5 - Sana Morette Na Ente (mainly done by ladies)

No DDR MAX tourny in northern California

DDR MAX2:
1 - Long Train Runnin'
2 - Spin The Disc
3 - Highs Off U
4 - On The Jazz
5 - Secret Rendezvous

DDR Extreme:
1 - 5.1.1
2 - We Will Rock You
3 - sync
4 - So In Love
5 - White Lovers

Well, hope this might help you out...but clearly I would have a different list...and maybe later, I'll post it up...when I'm more awake.

Wendell, with your tourney experience, you easily, uh, win this thread. Why didn't I think of the mix-by-mix thing? >_O

From what I've (seen) which is not a whole lot... (no particular order)

Butterfly
Long Train Runnin
Spin the Disc
Brilliant 2U (whichver mix you care to name)
B4U
Dynamite Rave
Era
A Minute
Let's Groove
So Fabulous, so fierce
Afronova

ummmm... and Highs Off U also >>

But my knowledge of tourney uses of such songs is highly limited.[/u]

I win? Just give me a chocolate chip cookie and I'm all smiles.

However, I think a top 15 is still doable. Those mix-by-mix songs are only the ones I've seen used frequently in tournaments, and there are so many other songs out there that have placed high, but are not on those lists. However, they can be represented in the songs that are best to freestyle to.

We just have to remember which ones have the most memorable performances to.

It's a tedious task, but I think you can pull it off. Plus the more I think about my lists, the more I want to change them up...

Reach me on the usual connections and we can probably come up with a good selection of songs.

QzarMystik: My Centre of the Heart routine is okay. But disappointing that no one else from our area has freestyled to it in a tournament (I could be wrong; please clarify if so)

Don't Stop
Long Train Runnin
My Fire biggrin.gif
