I went to New York New York in Las Vegas back in 1998, then I saw there was a new game there, called Dance Dance Revolution. I was too young, and I wanted to play. 2000, when DDR came out at D&B at Great Mall, and I thought I'd try it out a little bit. I sucked at it, because my sister would always skip the How to Play instructions. Late 2000, DDRUSA comes out at the same location at the same place. More like Deja Vu, only it was a different version. I got a little better at it. 2001, I went to a new arcade called Golfland, I went there, same version. Mid-2001, DDR4th Mix comes out at golfland. I thought I could try the Catastrophics, but I couldn't.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

My cousin had DDR in one of his crazy pot-filled birthday parties.... They brought DDR over, and we played for a while, until everyone got sick, and then I started playing. _________________

Around last summer, after seeing it on tv a couple times (Sketchers commercial, the lame King of the Hill thing), I looked around the mall, and bought the 1st Playstation version and a cheap pad for a total of $50 (I had store credit, so ). Only after playing basics for over a month by myself did I come to this site and find out there were three machines in an arcade about half an hour away, right next door to the mall . At least I didn't suck on my first try |

I had heard about this "crazy" arrow game a while ago, if I remember correctly not too long after it was introduced in the United States.
Well, I first saw PIU before I saw a DDR machine. I was on a trip for a club I was in (the FBLA) because I passed a "competitive" test and was now competing on the state level. The retreat we were staying at (can't remember the name of it anymore) had an arcade, and they had PIU there. There was a really good Asian guy playing Doubles. That was the first time I heard the song Beethoven Virus. It looked easy enough to play. However, I was too self-conscious to get on the machine and try it out myself.
Flash forward a few months. I'm on vacation in Ohio, and I go to a Dave and Busters. They had PIU there. My brother and myself decide that we want to try the game. I had no clue what I was doing when I was selecting the options. I probably put it on Standard mode or something. Anyway, I chose Beethoven Virus and promptly failed, being unable to hit any of the arrows correctly (although I understood the concept of the game).
Now we go forward in time a little more. It's about October of last year. It is my Freshman year in college, and my roommate asks me if I ever played DDR. I told him about my PIU expereince, and that I wanted to try DDR too. Well, we ordered Konamix and two pads off of E-bay. I played for a little bit, got to the point that I could beat 4-footers on Light, and kinda stopped for a bit. The pads were absolute poopy, and I couldn't stand playing on them. Around November, I had heard that my friend had gotten DDRMax and a RedOctane soft pad. When I came home over Thanksgiving break, I tried it out. The RedOctane pad was much better, and at the time my friend was more skilled than I was, although that would change with time . I liked the pad so much that I ordered my own. Of course, my roommate then decided to leave the game and one of the pads at his house so his sister could play DDR. So for a while I had this pad but no game. I went out and bought Konamix so I could get more practice in.
I played some over Winter Break, but not a whole lot. What really got me started was when I went with my roommate to the Laserdome for the first time. I can't remember exactly if I had gone once before Winter Break, but I know I went almost immediately after Winter Break. They had DDRMax2, and that is when I finally started playing songs on Standard. Because of the large breaks in my play time between late October-December, I don't consider to have truly "started" DDR until January of 2003. I got DDRMax shortly thereafter, and I made the switch to Heavy in March when I learned how to gallop by playing "My Generation" over and over. I passed my first cata (My Summer Love) by the end of the school year. Then the summer came and I went from being barely able to pass 8-footers well to beating my first 10-footer by the end of the summer.
Since then I've been steadily improving, and I hope to continue. My big overall goal is to have passed PSMO by the end of December. Well, that's more like a history of my DDR'ing as opposed to what got me into it, but oh well, I got bored and typed all this _________________
