Ok, ill start with one of my favorites . . . Me and my friend were at our normal arcade (muvico - arundle mills - Maryland) where the machine is right in front of a big window and not too many ppl play till like, 8. A kid in front of us started failing really bad so he stepped off the pad, the other dancer was keeping him in. My friend started dancing and freestyling (the kid was plaing standard). He yelled out "ok, when the left right jump arrows come, u dive under the bar and hit them with your hands and ill jump off. Well, the arrows come and i dive and hit them. My friend jumps backwards off the pad, catches his crotch on the bar and lands on my foot (hairline fracture, but i finished the song). He falls backwards and hits his head on this raised carpeted thing below the window and gets a minor concussion, losing short term memory for a good 5 hours . . . good times _________________

Woah, this is so my subject. So...many...
I have a tendency to fall off the pad. Whether it is on doubles or singles, I fall off. Like when i'm doing crossovers and go too far, or just plain slip. Once I was trying to play a relaly fast song and somehow slipped through the bar. Very wierd. Damn, that hurt. And other things. So many. TEehee |

Freestyling + Getting your leg caught on the bar as you hop over it = Falling on your head
And my friends filmed it and watched it on a big screen TV when they got home.
...at least I passed the song with a flashing bar. |

Yeah, we've all been there.
Actually, I'm not sure what we played when I first tried DDR at the arcade. All I know is that I sucked BADLY. My friend Josh got me interested, and it was me, his girlfriend Liz (who was just beginning), our friend Courtney (who started WITH me), and him. Needless to say, Courtney pretty much whooped me the first time. I don't even think I passed a song that day.
That was back in the very final days of May, this year. It's funny how I've become the best in the group since then. (Of course, I'm not exactly sure where Josh is right now. He and I are about the same level, so I'm DEFINITELY going to challenge him the next time he comes back here. Hehehe.)
Anyway, now that I've effectively gone off on a tangent, here's a nice story:
Josh and I were playing during the summer one day (I'm pretty sure this was back in June), and he asked me to keep him alive. The song was End of the Century, and he wanted to play heavy. I was to play light (which he wasn't sure if I could do [even though I could; well, at that]). Anyway, just after the first half of the song, I went down strangely on a jump, and my right ankle (which was already weak because I screwed it up 3 weeks prior) twisted. This caused me to fall onto my knees besides the machine.
Luckily, I hopped back on and finished the song (BARELY saving myself from death, and keeping him alive). I then proceeded to hobble away from the machine after we finished.
As for other stories, I know of plenty times when I failed songs I could do very easily. _________________

About a week ago I was playing Can't Stop Fallin' in Love (Speed Mix), and during the crossovers at the beginning my foot slipped on the edge of the machine. I almost fell on my face, but I managed to catch myself on the bar, get back up and start again just before failing the song.
Then I screwed up the crossovers towards the end and failed anyway. _________________

CoochDog, I've done the same thing.
I was playing Butterfly once, and I heard that there were spins, but I had no idea where to find them (this, in the same 2-day span that we got DDX, was my 1st time playing this song). I decided I was going to find them in front of a crowd. Note that by this point in time, I doubt I could finish a single 8-footer. Well, things happened and all of the Heavy players started laughing at me hysterically when the announcer said "There's always tomorrow!"
My shoes also tend to untie on me a lot (I usually triple-tie them, but to no avail...especially on my "stamina days"). I'm playing one of the really fast and streamy parts of EE, and I decide that right in the middle of my nice 170-something combo would be a nice time to slip and get caught trying to hold the bar on my way down. I somehow ended up not falling (I did catch the bar) OR MISSING A SINGLE ARROW in that stream. Walked away with my first "A" in EE...gold. |

Oh... nonononono NO!!!!!!! That DDR machine is THE WORST IN MARYLAND first of all! Don't ever go there! The pads are sh*t and it took the movie theature over 2 MONTHS to fix the sensors in the pads... and they're still HORRIBLE!
My worst moment was when I whacked some 7 or 8 year old boy who came up too close to the machine, while I lashing out on Rhythm of Police (heavy). He was SCREAMING, the mother comes by and goes ballistic on me and storms out with her crying kid... never went back to that arcade again even though it was an accident and ever since then I issue warnings to people who stand too close to the machine to back up. _________________

I was playing Doubles on Light(playing Afronova), and decided to do the "Matrix Walk" on the screen to look cool. Some kids were running around chasing each other and they ended up running into me while I was doing the "Matrix Walk". I fell over on my face, but got up and realized that I had passed the song.
Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.-Steve |
