What is with people who are afraid of moving up to light? All the time I'll see someone do beginner and get a full combo and an A on every song, and when I suggest they try moving up to light, they flat out refuse. I find it vaugly annoying to wait for my turn and have everyone ahead of me do beginner. (Prehaps the boredom of not having anything interesting to watch) Any ideas on how I can get people like that to try the next difficulty without resorting to hitting the back pad while they're choosing the song? |

I don't know what to say but to be patient, people learn at different paces than others but I also understand whatchu mean. _________________

They like nursing beginner. What will eventually happen is they will get bored of beginner and then move to light. Sometimes you really can't force it but you can always suggest it. _________________

Exactily. People learn at different speeds. I may improve a lot faster than someone else. Same thing pretty much. Pretty much all you can really do is keep suggesting it saying things like that should do fine and they wouldn't have any problem with it at all. _________________

These people that only use beginner... they are starting to piss me off. it's more of a waste of a dollar. There should be a extreme with beginner, and another one without at my arcade.
side note, why do so many people choose afronova beginner? it's at the top of the most frequently played list. Hmm... _________________

Maybe because it has a steady beat? Or maybe because they saw someone pick it first and picked it because they thought it was a good song to start with. You never know until you ask. _________________

I started on a Max2 over the summer, so there was no Beginner mode for me. However, I remember being absolutely terrified of moving up to Standard. I got over it after a while, and now I honestly can't figure out why I didn't make the jump sooner. Now I just need to hone my skills and head up to Heavy. _________________

My friend and I must have progressed quickly. I remember our first game on 5th Mix ever, we passed Abyss (2 foot, but a hard 2 foot), Absolute (3 foot), and then passed The Cube (4 foot) in one game. We moved up to Trick in a week. |

I just skipped standard entirely,it was weird. I was playing Paranoia on home version and I called him and asked what to do next. He said"Try I Like to Move It,it's easy" and I did. From there I progressed...I guess I just got it. _________________

when i first played ddr i had a fear of heavy...i stuck on standard mode for around two months...then some kid told me to play A on heavy..i never heard of the song b4 but i somehow passed it with a C...so maybe ppl who play beginner just need to play something like matsuri japan on light....so they can gain confidence and such... _________________

This is sort of related to this thread, at my arcade there are two guys who have been playing quite regularly now for about 3 weeks. They're both in there late teens and they like their DDR, it's the only game I have seen them play.
Normally I would try to start talking to them and maybe share a game with them. But not in their case, for several reasons:
They've been playing Beginner only for 3 weeks now, they refuse to let go of the bar at any time while playing, despite being on Beginner.
They are exceptionally poor players in terms of skill, but they act/pretend that they are hot stuff - go figure.
Whilst waiting for them to finish their game on the Extreme machine I watched them play and I was considering asking them if I could offer them some advice or maybe let them play vs me to help them improve their game - BUT:
As the last song they chose LoM - Beginner - they both failed miserably, despite using the bar both scored an E with more Misses than anything else. And yes, they have been playing for 3 weeks now. One of them remarked to his friend: "That's impossible, how can anyone pass that."
I don't put anyone down for their skill level at DDR or act like I am hot stuff, honestly - but I really had to force myself not to laugh out loud at these two show offs with less than zero ability.
What was worse these two guys were making such a show of their game that after they finished they wouldn't step of the pad, but sat down exhausted as though they just played 3 ten footers in a row.
And they were playing on Beginner!!!! (Just in case I forgot to mention that)
I think these two will be playing on Beginner for quite a while yet, some people just can't be helped.
On the other hand, most new players that I have played with did not need to play on Beginner for more than one game, or could even start on Light. _________________
