My wife and I recently got selected to do an episode of Weekend Warriors on HGTV. The producer was asking me what kinds of hobbies I have, and of course I mentioned DDR. She seemed really interested, and said they would film me doing a song or two and work it into the episode. Hooray! E4.gif

Problem is, I can't decide what songs to do. They probably won't use them all, or even most, but I'd like to have a good four or five songs lined up to do for them. Which songs do you think I should do? No limits on choices; I've got most of the PSX/PS2 games and a fair amount of stuff on StepMania, so pretty much any song will do.

(Oh, and please don't suggest MAX300 or any of the ten-footers. I want the crew and the people watching the episode to sort of understand the game, plus I gotta tear apart my kitchen and put it back together after I do this!)

Please specify what mix you're going to be playing on.

As I said, I have most of the PSX/PS2 mixes (barring weirdness like Oha Super Kids Station et al.) and a good collection of stuff on StepMania. Probably if you suggest it, I've got it.

To get the people to understand the game: play we will rock you standard.

To show more advance level stuff: parnoia rebirth heavy.

To show just how hard the game can be: good ol Max 300.

When will this air on TV?

WOW! That is so cool! You're going to be on weekend warriors? I like that show, tell me when it airs, I think it'd be so cool to see you and your wife on there. I think you should play some songs that the average person would appericate, songs that they would know already and then be like, "oh cool, this guy is dancing to arrows on this song!" Maybe like Witch Doctor, So Fabulous So Fierce, Lets Groove, Drifting Away, Ordinary World, The Neverending Story, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. You know, like everyday, everyone and their mom knows these songs, that'd be cool. Thoes songs are flashy enough to show off to and people could still get the idea, and they'd enjoy watching this guy dance to a song they lived to at one point in time! E4.gif Let me know when it airs! I'm so excited for you and your wife! E1.gif E4.gif

Most likely not for awhile. Producer sez that they're working on season 8 of the show right now, and it shouldn't air until next year (hopefully early next year).

Wow, I really hope this works out for you and your wife.

As for what songs to play: I seriously suggest playing an extremely high quality song. Something that will really impress the audience. I suggest A or V.

If it has it, love shine Maniac. I can freestyle to it like breathing.
What you do is first put you'r hand of you'r choice on the down arrow while still looking at the screen. hold it, and do the double. now, switch hands for the down arrow, and do the other double. Next, it's Up Left Up In a quarter eith quarter run, then look at the screen, and play it 'till after the first freeze arrow. at the end, pull a 180, and do the exact same thing. now the way you are looking, it will be a Left up left quarter eigth qiarter run. the following arrows are doubles. left.gif right.gif _ left.gif down.gif keep you'r left leg above the left (right when looking straight) arrow left.gif up.gif leg above up up.gif right.gif look at the screen and a left right freeze comes.
I'll continue this later

Well, considering you're going to be doing this on TV, I suggest playing some songs people would recognize (licensed tracks) and avoid the "gay" songs. Most people I know that started playing DDR did it because they enjoyed the music, and a lot of people will be turned off by really flamboyant songs, like sugary pop or Eurobeat, really... If it's just to demonstrate DDR itself, just make sure to pick some nice and easy songs to show how it works. A random onlooker won't understand Max300... only that they can't understand it, hehe...

Just some suggestions... if it's on Max US, probably something like Sandstorm, Drop the Bomb remix, Look to the Sky, Take it to the Morning Light, Spin the Disc... well just about anything that sounds "cool" and isn't an acquired taste (I.E. something like Candy or something by BeForU).

If it's just for fun, then just pick your favorite songs, really... I can't tell you what to pick.

Yes basically, stay away from speedy J-Pop and insanely weird techno, don't get me wrong I like Senorita and Max 300 (well actually I don't like MAX 300 erm.gif ) but those are exactly the songs people would think are gay. If you have to play a MAX pick Maxx Unlimited E13.gif

Suggestions:

Any Dynamite Rave
Any Drop the Bomb
Either Sexy Planet
Insertion
Ecstacy
Sandstorm
Ordinary World
So Deep
Either Briliant 2Us or B4U
Superstar
.59
Absolute

Basically common songs, or just about any Naoki song. Also if you can help it, even if you can beat every single song in the game, don't do 9 footers or extremely hard 8 footers, if people saw you playing MAX 300 or Paranoia Survivor on Heavy they'd be like what the hell is he doing. Play songs that follow the beat more, or just play on Standard/Trick

I'd say definitely B4U. It's kind of like a high-energy, fast-paced ad for DDR.
Whatever you do, do NOT do Orion.78 AMeuromix!!!
I Like To Move It would definitely have to be a choice seeing as that song used to be everywhere.
If you have Extra Mix, pick any one of those disco songs.
If you have 3rd Mix, In The Navy is mandatory
And of course, you could always play Do Me.

do you have any of the import games? I thin on 4th or 5th mix there's Saint goes Marching and thats cool. Otherwise B4U might not be bad.....hmmm matsuri might work but that can be uunimpressive unless the gallops are done just right. Rythem and police might be cool. I would just pick something with a catchy tune that might be impressive.

Simdude you prolly should try reading and Saint Goes Marching is 4th Mix.

I say So Deep would be fun to see, but I'm rather biased.

lets not make this game mainstream, even though its starting to become, just play the gayest song in the game and make sure people laugh at you and never want to step on a pad... i like being a minority

You don't know which song they will air (it likely will be only one!) so pick songs that:

- are on the PS2 (60 FPS and FMV backgrounds RULE!)
- don't have an offensive title (Ecstasy, Insertion)
- don't have offensive backgrounds (My Generation)
- are easy to figure out when and why you stepped (Candy Star)
- you can almost FC without looking like you are about to pass out
- are widely considered to be "music" (not Japan or Max 300)
- you like!

Make a list of your favorite songs, and eliminate the "worst" candidate each round until 5 songs remain - and do 'em all.

My choice: True (Sunrise Trance Mix)

that reminds me of the people who complain that they discovered a band first and are mad because someone else finds it good... wouldnt you think that if you liked it you'd want other people to like it?

I think you should seriously play so deep. cuz that song actually takes skill to play not speed.

I get the "hey play a really fast song" quote way too much, Show them something that actually takes timing/rhythim to do..and not just speed.
