it'd be funny, kinda like dancing in squares, but if ya think about it, it'd work real well, especialy those of you who freestyle. so when you run outa cash at the arcade, bust out your moves outside on a cardboard box. who knows, if people are impressed, they'll give ya money, just for simulateing DDR. crazy...but possibly workable[/b]

I think i'd use dancing around on a cardboard box as a LAST resort to make any kind of money.

Actually, I think it's a good idea. Without the cardboard box though. However, I already know how to dance. If you just play DDR on the cardbox , then that's retarded.

DDR only makes you learn beat & rhythm. If you want dance, you'll tend to need to learn the moves off the pad anyway.

I don't think DDR would teach you how to dance, but Phrekwenci had a good point in that it could teach you the basis of a dance. Almost any dance has a basic step pattern, I do alot of swing dancing and basic step was the first thing I learned. Things like that require rhythm training and feeling the beat of your partner, things like that I believe DDR would be very good at.

I think ddr could teach u how to dance.
it helps u with the beat. it will help u move your feet with the beat. all u will have to do is learn to do somthan with your arms. i think the more i play ddr. the more rithem i get.

agreed DDR helps you with your rythm, and for some reason after i started DDRin i gained more balence allowing me to actually dance. Freestyle really helps and curbs nervousness in front of crowds. DDR is like one of the most useful games ever.

All I have to add is this: Galloping or doing super-fast crossovers would not be something you'd want to do on a dance floor.

Background: I've been dancing (not DDR) for about 3 years now. I've reached the upper levels of east coast swing and lindy hop, and I just recently started learning latin dance such as salsa. I also have a couple of jazz classes under my belt E4.gif

DDR has been helpful to my dancing but only with respect to agility. My foot quickness has gone thru the roof since I started playing, which is nice for adding style when doing the other dances that I do.

Here's a couple of URLs for the people who want to try swing:

http://www.yehoodi.com/ This is THE national lindy hop swing resource and forum.

http://www.ccswing.com/ For the people in Milwaukee (my city) who want 2 swing dance

From what I know about ddr, it can really help you with coordination and help you with your balance in a sense. Counting it does help you out with learning beats and how to step to it, and gives you some rhythm, which is also good for people who claim to not have some sort of rhythm and they'd improve on that. Trust me it's all about the balance E13.gif

In my honest opinion, DDR has helped me with my dancing skills.

Before I started playing, my basic "rhyhmic movements" would just be swaying back n forth to the music.

Yes ... I was teh suck @ dances.

I mean ... I could bob my head ... so I could feel the rhythm ... but I honestly didn't know how to dance.

When I first played DDR, it was rather difficult to put the rhythm into my feet. Eventually I got the hang of it.

When I actually started to FREESTYLE, that's when my transition from just a DDR player to a PERFORMER began.

I started researching various DDR videos from back in the day (i.e., A-Team, old school vids from Japan, Norcal & Socal DDR freestyle vids from 2000, etc.) as well as dance music videos, so that I could learn from what they were doing.

I practiced and tried to develop my own technique to freestyling on DDR. And I still do that to this day.

I have improved in my dancing skill on AND off the pad. E4.gif

Cardboard box? No. But I see a DDR useful a little for someone who doesn't really know how to dance and observing/witnessing others who FS can help others bust some moves.
