Same here but there's more. It has to have air conditioning, or a fan. Next to a food court or anywhere to get snacks and refreshments. Preferably in a mall so you can walk around while you take a break. If it's not in a mall then a bowling alley is good. Plus there's always people in thos places so the crowds are great =) _________________

A good pad is a must (None of that worn out-caved in-sticky/slippery stuff.)
Oh yeah, and the arrow graphics on the pad need to be facing the right directions. |

Everything up above!
And, you must be able to hear the music, I've played at locations where the speakers were busted or where it was loud in there where you couldn't even hear the music, that messes you up really badly! I like playing where a lot of onlookers come to watch and where there isn't too many people playing, so that you're waiting for an hour before it's your turn! _________________

Completely agree with all of the above as being essential ... especially putting the machine NEAR a water fountain (if not a food stand) ... in an open area (best example ever: machines on the Santa Cruz boardwalk, the ones outside the arcades and right on the breezeway where people walk) and ensuring the music is turned up ... otherwise, I'm not encouraged to try new songs! And I can not STAND a pad in bad condition. Sadly, the majority of operators in casual locations have no clue how to fix / don't care about fixing this problem.
Here's another gripe -- putting one side (left or right) against a wall. Maybe there's some freaky freestyle voodoo/non-machine damaging Matrix-walk-esque thing you can do with such a setup, but for me, it's distracting. And while doing doubles routines, I hate having to think that if I fly off the pad by mistake, I'll run smack into a wall! (Either I run into that or the little kids who think it's safe to stand on the back left square of the machine or grab the bar ...) _________________

All ove the above and more. A few days ago I went to the local bowling alley with my 8th grade class (last years calss) and the machine was right next to a stupid racing game. People were crowding around the racing game to see who woul win and people got in my way. Other people from my class would stand right behind me and lean on the grab bar. Its hard to play when there are so many people that close to you. One person had their foot rested on the pad. I think that when I smacked her foot when I was playing she got the hint. And also the speakers were down and I could hear the stupid racing game over the songs I was playing.
A good DDR location shold be in an open space not right next to another game. there should be air conditioning, good pad, the one at the alley wasnt the best) cheap, not too many people waiting to play, and there shouldnt be people right next to you on the machine. |

My opinion of a DDR location's quality is determined by the overall quality of the arcade's entire game collection. However I do require for the location to have their DDR machine to have decent volume, pads that work and allow you to get a AAA, and I require for the price to be fair considering the # of songs you are given, and wether or not autofail is activated.
Also multiple DDR machines is a serious plus. It's great to be able to play DDR 1 game after the next by jumping machines and not having to wait in line. |

Personaly I would never go somewhere that didn't have some sort of food place within walking distance, didn't have a good pad, costed more then $1.00, or was to overly crowded on days like friday. The placee i currently go it costs .75 for 3 songs and the people there let you pretty much do anything if your paying for DDR. They let you sit at the other machines, put stuff on the ledges, and they'll turn the music up for ya (which they recently did cuz it was so low you couldn't hear the music at all). _________________

- IIDX 9th with a working stage, screen in new condition, DVD drive in new condition, and working key lights
- Pads on the bars
- A coin line on the machine
- A lot of space around the machine
- $1.00/4 songs or better
- Nearby food and drinks
- Tables and chairs nearby
- Wide open space
- Those things between the stage and machine that SVGL and MGL have
- An arcade that 1. requires children under 13 to be accompanied with an adult at all times and 2. doesn't allow children under 13 in the arcade after 8 PM
- Opens at 10 AM or earlier and closes at 10 PM or later |
