|

I've always been toying around with the idea of marching band arrangements of some DDR tunes. Now most tracks which you could use are too frickin' fast for anyone to march, plus most tunes are only a minute or two long, meaning you'd have to play about 7 or 8 of 'em during the halftime show. BUT what about being in the stands? A timeout is around a minute thirty, just the perfect time to showcase some real music . So let's say sheet music and demo tracks were available. Would you try and get your director to go for it? Finally, a question to anyone who is or has been in a drumline. Max 300: Can it be done? |

Actually when I was still in high school is to integrate a lot of songs through the PA system during basketball game halftimes.... I was in the basketball band back in high school, and I got the director to give me like 5 min of DDR jams. It was fun stuff.
I can't imagine how a marching variant could be done on any of the songs... But if you guys end up popping one off, lemme see the final product!
Songs recommended to blast:
Stomp to My Beat
Rhythm and Police
The Cube
So Deep
Max300, Maxx unlimited, Legend of Max
Lots of Paranoia
Sandstorm
I Like to Move It
El Ritmo Tropical (got a lot of the bball team to dance to this one )
Lemme just say that Stomp to My Beat needs to be blasted on huuuuge stadium speakers for the best effect. |

My marching band is doing songs from the Broadway show Blast! I think that anything 60-140 bpm is marchable. So we could do something like Kakumei with marching- other things...
Too bad they're all techno songs with a need for synthesizer. I guess we can't do them... j/k _________________

I forgot... I'm the DDR section leader (unoficcialy of course) for the band.
If we ever go to a competiton and there's DDR, then I lead them(my section members). _________________

That'd be pretty cool, actually! Our school band, unfourtinatly, is musically incompetent. It'd take them more than a school year to learn the drum line for Max 300. (I think it would take ANYBODY a long time to get down something like that without synthesizers or other such musical paraphenilia.) I can imagine at least one person who is DDR-educated in the band asking, "Can we do Bag?"
It is possible, if a lot of people happen to like DDR in a school and are willing to learn how to play the music. I personally support something like that, and if I was in a band class, I'd try and encourage it...but I'm not. The idea sounds good to me! _________________

My girlfriend wrote a Max300 cadence for a drumline at college, and it sounded pretty good. I'm working on bag for trombone. _________________

MAX's would be awesome for an entrance/exit cadence.
Our band is currently marching a show at 180, so most of the songs would be doable. I'd love to see Holic, or maybe Jam&Marmalade |

My school's marching band (Wando High School) which i am in, is playing a song at 174 bpm, and almost all of the band is starting the DDR club at my school....
Might be able to run that by my teacher...

remember, half time, high stepping, and jazz runs. those are important to do higher bpm songs. (my highschool did a 264 bpm song in competition once) |
