About Stepmania and characters

Stepmania claims to support dancing characters. I managed to download characters from the DDRPC website on Konami of Hawaii's pages but I can't figure out how to use them in Stepmania. Does anyone here know how?

You can't, i'm pretty sure...

1) They're not compatible
2) I don't think the CVS actually supports characters yet.

They've been supported for a while, it just hasn't been released how, until today. Check the DDRManiaX main page for more details on how to get them.

Available on the front page @ www.ddrmaniax.net Not sure if i'm supposed to promote another site. It's in smzip format so you don't have to do anything. It contains all 48 from DDRPC, Emi and Rage included.

if you have stepmania installed you don't have to use winzip, it's a smzip, so stepmania knows where to put all of the files.

What RedDeath and DDRManiaX both failed to make important is that you must download a Bittorent client. A link to version 3.2.1 is available on the DDRManiaX page and on SourceForge.net; open (don't save) the full version of the smzip file and the rest will take care of itself.

OK, I installed BitTorrent, but I still can't get the character files. It keeps reading the file as a Quicktime file.

I have the character packs, and I am going to edit the metrics.ini file to include a "select character" screen. However, I haven't played a mix with characters for a long time and I forget - is the menu order style>difficulty>character>song, or style>character>difficulty>song?

As far as I know, there's never been a mix that allows you to select a character, and select a specific difficulty at the beginning. So pretty much, either way is appropriate.

If you want my recommendation, though, I'd have it go style>character>difficulty>song.
