Yes, sure, MIDI as a music format is far inferior to MP3s, but let's face it - these virtual piano rolls take up very little data space, and it's not as easy to make them as just inserting a CD and clicking a button... I admire those who are able to compose and program MIDI files that sound somewhat like the original works, perhaps with their own musical sensibilities, no less.

Which brings me to Dance Dance Revolution. There are a few good MIDI files out there, such as Butterfly, Dam Dariram, Brilliant 2U, and Maxx Unlimited (yes, Maxx Unlimited), but where's, for instance, End Of The Century? Drop The Bomb? Paranoia? DYNAMITE FREAKING RAVE?! C'mon, people, you have the skills... get composing. I can't wait to hear a good composition of these! (There are plenty of bad MIDIs out there, but like anything else, there are good ones...)

Best sites for video game music: vgmusic.com and musicrobot.com, the latter of which is a MIDI search site.

I am still surprised some of the best known songs, such as Trip Machine, La Senorita, and Matsuri Japan, aren't represented...

So I see... thanks. Some of these are of absolutely laughable quality (the Dynamite Rave one is just the intro, and sounds like it's being played on a merry-go-round organ), but props to PhantomHaunter's site for effort. Thanks for pointing this one out! [There are some great ones there, though... unfortunately, right now it's down having exceeded the GeoCities data transfer limit.]

Me? What do I look like, some kind of song?

J/K, my username is based off of that song. riiight.gif

But to be serious...

Found this off a Japanese site:
http://www.angelfire.com/games5/dj_gs68/5.1.1_vsc.mid

Except for the crappy bass during the start and end of songs, it sounds a LOT like the original 5.1.1.

vgmusic.com (best game MIDI site IMO) has Captain Jack Grandale Remix (under DDR 3rd Mix), Orion .78 Civilization Remix (under 4th Mix), Maxx Unlimited (under 7th Mix), and B4U (under Konamix). Those are all under the Playstation listing (yes, even the Maxx Unlimited one). I didn't try listening to them so I don't know how good they are.

My sentiments exactly. They've been my sentiments since I first heard the mp3.

Me:
"All right, new Re-venge song!"
<plays mp3>
"Hey, it's Scotch-Irish sounding, awesome! Wait a minute.... those badpipes are MIDI! ;_;"
