Even if it's a little more expensive, are there any more durable models for DDR metal pads besides cobalt flux? iON metal?

Holy good god, no.

Cobalt Flux is pretty much the high-end standard now. If you're on a budget, the Afterburners are pretty good pads for the price.

How about the iON Master pad which sells for about $1000? do you have any experience with that?

the only other kind of pad that would be better then flux is mymybox blueshark pad, but they don't ship them out anymore. you have to pick them up. mymybox as far as i'm concerned is the only company that uses the real arcade sensors, but they only put two sensors in each arrow instead of 4 like the arcaes have.

As the others have already said. Cobalt Flux and the Blue Shark pads from MyMyBox are still considered some of the best homepads available. I have played on a Red Octane Afterburner metal pad, and if you're a normal-sized person and don't weigh over 200+ lbs, it should hold up rather well for ya. There is the new iDance hard pads (which aren't very easy to find), but for the price they don't seem to be as good as a CF or Blue Shark.

If you want more information on various pads, please check out the Bemani Controllers sub-forum here:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=37

And in the future, please make sure to put all controller-related posts in that sub-forum.
