RedOctane, the company that brought us the Ignition 2.0 and 3.0, the Afterburner Metal Pad, (and let us not forget Guitar Hero), has recently released the newest incarnation of their popular Ignition dance pad, the Ignition 5.0.

It is similar to the 3.0, but it is said to have a new design, and the newer pad is now compatible with the GameCube and Nintendo Wii* in addition to being compatible with the Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, and PC via USB. The cables connecting to the controller port of each of these are no longer detachable as they were with the 3.0, so there is no longer a danger of losing or misplacing them. The new pad sells for $79.99 on RedOctane's official website.

*It should be noted that the while the 5.0 has been tested with Wii DDR Hottest Party 1, it has NOT yet been tested for compatibility with Wii DDR Hottest Party 2.

EDIT: The RedOctane website now confirms compatibility with both Wii DDR Hottest Party 1 and 2.

Apparently it is next to freakin impossible to make a good pad work on the 360? It's a shame, because people keep saying that the 360 DDR games are actually very good.

Wait. If it is tested to work with Hottest Party 1, then why would there be any question as to it working with HP2?

Just RedOctane being ultra-cautious.

I mean really, if you'd just been in a lawsuit with Konami, would YOU be jumping out to claim things that were probably true, but that you weren't sure of?

It's not that they see any problem with it working with Wii Hottest Party 2, it's just that they want to cover themselves in case for some reason it doesn't.

I'm sure somebody who has Hottest Party 2 and is getting the new pad could check this... >.>

So, anybody thinking about getting one?

First they manufacture cheap dance pads, then cheap plastic guitars for a cheap knockoff franchise, now they're back to making cheap pads.

Not to mention a cheap knockoff dancing game as well.

It's great to know DDRFreak is still censoring the hell out of their boards even in 2009. Some things never change. E10.gif

why buy that when, with the price of 2 of those, you could get an afterburner? imo, i would just go with the afterburner, wayyy better than those foam pads. but hey whatever ppl like.

It doesn't look to me that it made a big difference with the previous version (What happened to 4.0? O.O)

Afterburners aren't as good as they could be. Best to, if going metal, to go Blueshark or CF.

Cool to see RO making pads still.

I actually snagged one of these. I have a flux but it broke a year ago in a really abnoxious way to fix, and I didn't feel like spending a lot of time, money, and effort trying to get things fixed up or for a really fancy pad.

I bought one of these, and what can I say, its nice. Definitely a home pad, doesn't feel anything like the arcade, but hey, its foam. It doesn't slide, the raised panels are actually significantly raised so its very easy to tell where the arrows are... the step zones are actually bigger than the raised portions which is weird and kind of bad (mostly just weird) but not a big deal. I haven't had a chance to use it TOO much and I'm totally out of shape so I'm unaccustomed overall, but its definitely an excellent soft pad.

Transportation. If you ever have to move from one place to another, it makes much more sense to have the foam ones.

The "5.0" is a reference to the fact that it works for 5 different platforms (PS2, GC, Xbox, Wii, PC). This confused the heck out of me too. E10.gif

Huh? First of all, RedOctane didn't make in the groove, they published it, and only the PS2 version. Roxor were the developers.

Also, if you're still playing DDR over ITG, stop living in the past. Although, I assume by your lack of any basic knowledge on the game whatsoever, your opinion isn't worth the weight of a dime.

"This dance pad is compatible with Wii DDR Hottest Party 1 & 2 Software!"

This might be an odd question, but I notice it only lists Xbox and not 360.

Since my Ignition 3.0 didn't work with my 360, should I assume this one won't either?

From what I've been able to gather, most (all?) non-official pads won't work with the 360; so this is probably no exception.
