Hello, welcome. I'm new here too. Glad you took an interest in DDR. If you find the songs you really enjoy, you'll lose the pounds sooner than later. For beginner mode, I'd say playing for 3 hours = 1 hour walking. As you progress in your level of play, you burn calories faster and faster. I have a few tips for you.
1. Try not to keep your feet in the center. After you step on the arrow, keep your foot there until the next stepping requires that foot.
2. Get comfortable with alternating foot on an arrow. If you use your right foot for the "up" arrow, next time try using your left foot to do it. Same goes for the "down" arrow.
3. Listen to the song and pick up the rhythm, and match it to your stepping. Although it's not necessary to do this for 1 or 2-foot songs, as you get better, this method will certainly help you.
4. occasionally pick a song of higher difficulty to "sight-read" it through, when you go back to your level again, everything becomes that much clearer.
5. Last but not least, find a way that will keep you interested and motivated, be it dancing with your family or making short-term goals.

Alright, I hope these help. Good Luck

It is possible losing 20 pounds, my brother lost around 80. But you have to help out in way. Drink water, not just when playing but all the time, so no pop or things like that, and eat better as well. The more you progress in DDR will also help lose more weight.

1. Keep your center of gravity generally in the middle of the mat but not your feet. Try not to lose your balance. Practice, practice, practice.

2. Play either Workout mode or Endless mode. In workout mode, you can set a number of kcal (kilocalories?) or an amount of game play time and it makes a pleasant noise when you meet the goal. In endless mode, it kinda does what the title says, you pick whatever songs you want to play, the options, the number of stages between break stages, and sometimes which dance meter you want (like challenge or normal) (?). The game picks a random song based on the ones you picked and the songs to consecutively (no breaks) until you reach the break stage.
