Many summers ago (5 to be exact) I threw up from eating a ton of Doritos, drinking a bunch of warm Cherry Coke and playing a few 7 footers (which were about as hard of songs as I could do at the time; EOTC standard totally drained me). Ah, memories.

edit: I'm also pretty sure I posted about it on here too, lol.

edit 2: Hahaha, indeed. I was lame when I was 14, haha. Also, now I feel really old. :-\

For fun on a rainy day, find active Random Chat posters who have been on for 3 or more years, go to their profile, and click on "View all posts by [whoever]", and read the earliest few pages of posts. It's funny to see how non-bitter some of us used to be.

No worries. I'm older than you by a couple years, and I still consider myself fairly young. You're not "old" till 40 at least, and I'm slightly over halfway there. Also, that does go to say that taking breaks after eating is a good idea.

Another common symptom of playing too much, is of course, heat exhaustion.

And excessive sweatiness.

Once upon a time, I played DDR for like 2.5 hours. During this session, I was drinking a lot of water to keep myself hydrated since I was literally dripping with sweat. After that time period, I started to feel: nausea, malaise, confusion, and stupor. According to Wikipedia, those are the symptoms for "Hyponaetremia." It's a good thing I learned about this medical condition before it's too late because if hyponaetremia continues too long, may lead to an undesirable condition known as death. Soo, unless you're under the medical advice of a doctor to reduce sodium intake, make sure you're getting enough sodium while even DDRing very hard.

Socks are replaceable. Take care of the blistering. After your feet has had enough time to heal, get some new socks then carefully return to your dance mat. E1.gif

My calves start to cramp up after about an hour and a half of straight play, but I keep myself hydrated by drinking water between songs anyways (My kitchen is right next to my living room, so I can usually get a drink while the computer calculates the score). Your advice is good advice though. I've run a couple marathons, and used to ride my bike alot. I've never run myself to the point of exhaustion or being disoriented, but I have always listened to what my body tells me, and adjusted my pace, or done what I can to alleviate the problems before they become problems.

One thing I remember I had to watch out for when running marathons was the symptoms of hypothermia. When you work out, you don't think that your body is getting "too cold" and you may even feel warm all the time, but you can actually be cold due to all the sweating and prolonged exposure to cold air (probably only in winter or if the AC is blasting the whole time). you can read about hypothermia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothermia Although, I don't think you'd really have to worry about it too much unless you played for a very extended period of time (say at least 3 hours depending on your size and body chemistry).

I used to get the trots really bad if I played for too long. Then again, my idea of too long would be on and off for an entire day.

I did throw up a couple times too, but it was usually after a max.

Don't even begin complaining about your age. Darn fools these young whipper-snaps are these days!

Wow, so I leave the forums for a little while and... absolutely nothing happens. blink.gif Good thing?

While attempting to pass HVAM heavy one day, my legs started to ache really bad and I thought I was going to pass out, and thus couldn't finish. I had trouble standing for a while afterwards, too. Thinking that that one song could wear me out so much makes me feel kinda pathetic, but it also makes me feel better about where I am NOW stamina-wise. erm.gif

Also reminds me of the first time I played (and passed!) Max 300 (light). I couldn't speak and was gasping for ten minutes afterwards. I think I even scared the arcade staff. Oh, to be young and pathetically out of shape again... >_<

On the other hand, about eight straight hours of play is an average day for me now. When I can afford it.

I had five beers at a bar tonight and then played a round of DDR at said bar. I finished the round off with Max 300 and had absolutely no troubles with my socks or breathing patterns. I'm also 23 and I smoke nearly a half pack a day. Am I cool yet?

The coolest bar in the whole God-damned universe. That's what.
