I know that there's a freakishly huge amount of mixes of many DDR songs, such as Paranoia, Maxx, Trip Machine? Songs like that, but I want to know what really characterizes a Maxx song. What do all Maxx songs have in common, etc?

Their name? High BPM? Always denoted as a 10-footer on Heavy/Expert?

I'm pretty sure they're all made by the same guy.
Now that I think about it, making music for stomp stomp sounds like a rather unglorious profession, no?

I think the only exceptions to this are Max 300 (Super-Max-Me-Mix), which is made by Jondi and Spesh and Max.(Period), which is made by 2MB. All the rest are made by Naoki, but under different pseudonyms.

Before Supernova, I think what distinguished Maxx songs from others was the freeze jump that lead to a complete stop. When Supernova came along, though, this wasn't seen in FaXX or SMMM.

All the rest of the characteristics were already pointed out by Reenee.

A previous trend also is that the ending musically of a MAX song because the introduction of the next MAX song, but as far as I know it has only happened with MAX 300-MAXX Unlimited-The legend of MAX

I suppose the other characteristics are 10-footer expert charts, 300+ top BPM with tempo changes, 500+ steps

Or it could be that they have the word [max] in them.

Exceptions:

Maximum Overdrive
Maximizer

ok, this is it right here:

each max was featured as the accessible extra stage for each mix.

I don't know about home versions (I haven't played them) - but I think that rule applied there as well [ max. , SMMM]

That's because it says "climax".

All the maxes have "max" separate.

The legend of max.
Max 300
Super Max Me Mix
Fascination Max

For the record, Fascination Eternal Love Mix isn't a max.

I think people read to much into it.

The Maxes are:

Max 300
Maxx Unlimited
The legend of Max
Max. (period)
Max 300 (Super Max-Me-Mix)
Fascination Maxx
Fascination ~Eternal Love Mix~

They don't necessarily have to have Max in the title, but I think they make it pretty obvious which ones are Maxes and which ones are not. Listen to the music. I think of it this way. Naoki was made all of the original Maxes and sequels. The only other Maxes are remixes (Max., Max 300 Smmm, and felm).

Nope, not a max. It doesn't even have "max" in its name.

Every Paranoia has "paranoia" in the name.

Every Trip Machine has "trip machine" in the name.

It's in the title - spelled out plainly every single time.

Every Max/MaxX song can somewhat fall under the "Hard Techno" genre.

I don't consider FELM as an official Max, but rather as a remix of one. It's just like PSM not being considered as a Max even if it has "Max" in its name, only in reverse.
