|
Quoted from GameInvasion:
Konami Digital Entertainment continues its fitness initiative in schools as its groundbreaking game series, 'Dance Dance Revolution,' has become part of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's challenge among all k-12 schools to get California students healthy and fit.
This highly acclaimed game will be part of an all-new fitness center presented to Los Angeles based Marvin Elementary School on Tuesday, September 18. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be on hand at the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony and walkthrough of the center that will feature 'Dance Dance Revolution' and other physical activity equipment.
Thanks to DDRmom for the news. _________________

This event just won't be complete without the Governator failing butterfly on light mode. Here's hoping that happens. |

If it means including an AC DDR machine, I'm all for it; but the problem is, we might see them whore R3, Sakura, Daikenkai, A, Xepher... and it's already bad enough those get whored in the arcades. >_> _________________
BeForU was easily the heart and soul of DDR, until someone in Konami thought that it's a threat to the current structure (read: Konami's blatant overfunding of IIDX/pop'n). |

It's great to see Konami's efforts to get this into more schools pay off.
I know they've been trying to get the Governator to accept this for a while, so it's pretty sweet to hear this. _________________

Cool stuff.
Hopefully the setups are better than what I have experienced at my school :/
In 6th grade, they had it set up on a projector and kids 'practiced' while two kids were allowed to play on the pads. This happened probably four times the entire year. The other times it was played, it was considered a 'station', so everyone got to play for about 2 minutes the entire class period, which as you can imagine is pretty horrible. The gym teachers were nice and let me and a few of my friends come in and play during recess though, which were fun times
In 7th and 8th grade (different school), it was basically a filler. About four or five days during the semester (usually on days with shortened periods D: ), the gym teachers would say that you can choose between different things to play (usually basketball, dodgeball, or dance games, sometimes replace dodgeball with like ping pong or something) and you play that for the entire period. The vast majority of kids are more interested in basketball or dodgeball.
To make it worse, all three years were DDRMAX2 US running on a slim ps2 with no memory card, and it was reset every class period so NOTHING was unlocked, and the pads were either broken ignitions (every once in a while there would be a working one though) or even more broken wireless pads (only happened like the first two times that I played in 6th grade, they took my recommendation and got other things, but they were ignitions lol).
At this point, I'm not even sure how I feel about DDR in schools anymore. Yeah, I agree that it COULD work if it is used as a unit or chapter and it is done well, but things like that require a lot more money than schools are willing to spend on gym equipment, especially with companies like Gopher out there trying to market a $25,000 bundle that includes a tv, a ps2, ddrmax2, and two cobalts.

I honestly don't understand people who whore Daikenkai.
But I play A all the time
Anyway, this is great for the elementary schools, but I don't see it working in secondary schools. I'll just keep playing with my friends on my Flux at home, thank you very much. |

O_O I'm not the only one who calls it didder?
I tried to get my gym teacher to buy a Solo machine I found for a decent $2,000. I figured he wouldn't need something fancy like an Extreme or SuperNOVA and the price wasn't bad. But he was like hurhur no I'm going to get a ghetto version of DDR that happens to have arrows but isn't the real thing and isn't a machine.
_-_
I brought in Extreme for the PS2 to my gym class last year and showed off, though, and he fell in love with the idea. Just if they do anything at my school it'll be when I've already graduated =/.
...If there was ANY good DDR setup at my school, I'd be skipping a lot of classes. _________________
