|
|
Hi,
I have played Dance Dance Revolution and other dancing games a few times and it was fun. I just don't like dancing that much and DDR gets kind of boring, just following the arrows all the time. I love the concept of the DDR Pad though.
Here is my question: Are there any other GOOD non dancing games that use the DDR Pad? Are there any fighting games that work well with the DDR pad? Is Konami thinking about making anything else for the DDR pad besides dancing games?
If anyone has any info for me please let me know. I tried searching on the internet, but really just couldn't find any answers. I know Kraft designed a really cheap and boring fighting game that uses the four directional buttons. It would probably work with a DDR Pad, but it really stinks.
Has anyone ever heard of the Thrustmaster Fighting Arena? It's got like a DDR type Pad on the ground and four infrared sensors for your two hands and two feet for the buttons. It's supposed to be used for fighting games, but I don't think they designed any specific games for it. It probably sucks, I just don't see how you can use a device like that for a game that was designed for a hand held controller. Personally I'd like to see a fighting game where you could use the DDR to do different moves and didn't have to follow the preset pattern like in Dance Dance Revolution. Any thoughts? |

Well if you have Pac Man World for Playstation you can play classic Pac Man on the pad. It's hard though. _________________

I tried playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Gamecube with my pad, and it's okay for the first few levels. Then it gets pretty hard to time jumps...
Also, if you haven heard of the Kraft USB pad, then take a look at this.

Thanks for the comment about Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm sure you can attempt to play a few different games with the pad, but only DDR is really designed for it. That's what sucks. They should design other games with the pad in mind. It wouldn't be that hard.
I checked out the Kraft Pad, and I already knew about it. Sadly the promotion ended 7/31 and the GET IT part of the link doesn't work any more.
Have you seen the games for that Kraft Pad? They are horrendous.
Didn't someone here mention the Tekken game? Isn't Eddy Gordo in that game who does Capoeira. Anyway I remember playing that game a few times and I really didn't know many of his moves, but if you wildly pushed the buttons you could really do some cool stuff. I think it would be great if they designed a fighting game where you had to do different step combinations on the DDR Pad for you character to do different moves kind of the way you controll Eddy. That way you could actually play against people and get a work out. Of course they'd have to make it so you could play over the Internet as well. The key is though that they would have to seriously adapt the game to work with the DDR pad. It is possible. I guess I just have to keep dreaming, because they don't seem to be making anything like that at the moment. Any video game designers in this forum? |

I once tried using a DDR pad on Street Fighter Alpha 3. I nearly fell on my face trying to do a Hadoken. x_x DDR pads are bad for for SF games anyway. Depending on the pad, you may only have 2 face buttons to use, which will get you, at best, one punch and one kick. I also tried the old rhythm game Bust A Move/Groove with a DDR pad. That worked pretty well. I imagine with practice you could play that game pretty effectively with a DDR pad since it only uses the d-pad and X and O.
I've also heard of some people successfully playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with it. You might only have the buttons for ollie and grab, but it probably works better than Street Fighter. Oddly enough I've never tried it with Tekken, which is at least possible on a DDR pad with X, O, square, and triangle. |

Yes, they sure are. The only reason I bought the pad was because I thought it might be good for Stepmania. Aside from the pad being the worst pad I have ever owned, it also suffered from the Joy-Axis problem we've all come to "love" so much. At least I only wasted 6 bucks. |

Yea, I played Bust a Groove with another DDR style pad. It was some sort of Martial arts Pad. It had four directional arrows, a start button and two buttons like X and O. Then you had straps on your hands and feet with a little ball in them. Whenever you punched or kicked the ball would move and register a button push. It really sucked, because the ball would always move and then bounce back and move more than once, screwing you up. It was really irritating to hear the same song over and over again. I couldn't pass the first level.
I also played street fighter a little, but you could only punch and kick. That sucked really bad.
Would any of you be interested in playing a Tekken like game with the pad? I would love it if I could get an aerobic workout playing a fighting game. It has to be smooth though and intricate enough so you don't get bored.
Has anyone here heard of the Thrustmaster Fighting Arena? It sounds cool enough, but I don't think it is designed to really give you the ability to do complex moves in the interesting games. Has anyone ever used the Thrustmaster?????
By the way I'm sorry you lost $6 on that Kraft pad. |

I found the Space Channel 5 games a ton of fun on a DDR pad. Yes, it is a dancing game, but not in the same sense as DDR. If you can get your hands on a copy, try it. _________________

That sounds fun, I should steal my sister's Gamecube pad and get Mega Collection and try that, it would be a great way to satisfy my occasional Sonic addiction without getting fat and squishy. _________________

I've heard that you can use a DDR Pad (or a Guitar Hero controller) to Boom Boom Rocket. |

A friend and I tried this...

...and I specifically tried this. Played some Christie too, since it was Tekken 5. Also, I'm mostly a Christie player anyway, so I knew what I was doing, but you couldn't tell by how jerky my movements were on the pad.
My friend played as Yoshimitsu, but that situation isn't as humorous. _________________
