Hello I'm new to DDR and would like to have advice and information from the veterans about a few questions to enter the DDR world. I didn't know in which board to post since I have many questions so I decided to post here (sorry if it's the wrong board).
I want to try and be a hardcore DDR player and I want to burn calories with DDR exercice. I am very new to this domain and I seek advice. I have read some stickies but some of them are very long and unfortunately I don't have the time to read them all (college, gym, exams, etc).
I read enough to know that I want a cobalt flux (as my first DDR pad ever). My questions are:
-Am I making a good choice by going with the cobalt flux instead of another DDR pad? I want one that ressembles the ones in the arcade. I do not have time to read every single review for every kind of pad there is so I need to know which pad people buy the most. Just the general opinions of you DDR veterans would be enough for me.
-For the arcade-style mod kit, should I buy it if I want to get the most "arcady" feel of DDR? or is it not worth the money? (I don't want to waste time by manually "modding" things nor willing to take risks)
-Any other accessories/things I should buy? I heard about applying, before even using the pad, some acrylic/plastic oil (I don't know the exact term) so the CF pad is more resistant to wear. Anyone can shed any light on this?
-What are all the must have DDR games for ps2, and PC? (money isn't an issue, I can have them all) And what game should a newbie like me start with?
-Is there any DDR games on ps2/ps/xbox/xbox360 that has vengaboys music?
-I heard the CF is only compatible with ps2, any way to make it compatible with xbox and PC and maybe the wii? All the adapter mumbo jombo is not clear to me, isn't there a very good adapter out there that can support all consoles (with no delay/lag problems) or should I just buy, if it is possible, another control box for xbox/PC/wii?
Sorry if I seem arrogant of impatient, please understand I just want to buy this pad asap and I don't want to spend hours and hours choosing the right things so I want your opinions on what is "best". (It took me weeks and I still didn't find a printer that suits my needs...just an example).
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! |

On the topic of pads: I stopped reading at "....one that resembles the arcade." CFs are great, don't get me wrong, but it's pretty universally accepted that unless you're building your own, a blueshark pad is the closest you're going to get to the actual arcade experience. It's heavy, thick, and uses real arcade pad sensors. They (and CFs, for that matter) are kinda pricey, however.
Owning very few actual DDR games myself, I'm not one to recommend anything, but I like MAX2 because of it's straightforward "play songs to unlock more songs" type of unlocking system, and it's got a nice songlist.
Can't really help with the adaptor problem, either, as I know very little on the subject of console to console adaptors. PS2 to USB adaptors are the most common, and the kind you get for that depends on the kind of pad you have (the lag varies depending on the pad). |

You actually got a working machine there?
Being infamous, how was customer service? How long did it take, and most importantly, how bad was the shipping rate/price?
Also, where in god's name does one get a security bypass chip that works w/ SOLO machines?
I am running a DDR club in college and hope eventually to raise money for a DDR machine, and thought that I could go for a SOLO machine, upgrading it w/ help to MAX2/other DDR mixes. _________________

PS2 games and PC games?
Try Extreme JP version
Possibly Stepmania 4.0 beta for PC... I can't find a version above 3.9 that works for Mac.
What the hell, I smell cigarettes. _________________

Cobalt Fluxes are generally too flat, but I usually had the best results, and from what I heard from others, an AfterBurner metal pad is the way to go. _________________

Ok, I recomend that you buy the Flux with the arcade kit, and download Stepmania and get an adaptor with which to play. Then, find the arcade timing windows and copy them into the stepmania script. Then download offical 1st-Extreme packs and you can play just like you at the arcade, even with arcade timing. _________________
