I'm not sure if this was discussed and a quick search yielded no relevant results... but does anyone have any info on using the Guitar Hero controller with Guitar Freaks?
The problem is the Guitar Hero controller has the left directional pad always activated. I wanted to install a switch to turn on and off the left d-pad in order to play both games. You can use the Guitar Hero controller just fine, but the left directional pad is always ENABLED. This makes choosing the correct song virtually impossible. I was thinking about hardware modding it, AKA soldering wires, but ANY wires that were desoldered resulted in total guitar failure. I reached the conclusion that the left d-pad activation was through a chip or software embedded on the guitar board.
Has anyone heard or come up with a way to get around the left d-pad on the Guitar Hero's guitars? I can already imagine that Masterpiece Gold will have the same flaw when connecting this type of controller. I've also seen this flaw in V2 as well as Masterpiece Silver. Any comments / solutions? _________________

Yeah. Use a controller to select & then quick switch. The GH controller always have the left button on so the game can reconize it. |

That's the obvious work around, but it gets old and annoying REALLY QUICK! I'm looking for a more permanent solution so I don't have to do a swap every time I want to choose a song. I searched a bit more here and found a "DDR savegame swap(?)" that disabled the XO buttons. Perhaps there is something like that to disable the Left D-pad...? _________________

i had 1 idea, and it comes in the form of that ant commandos Guitar Hero 2 adapter. by using this product as said, you are able to get all 1st gen ant commando guitar hero controllers to act as a guitar on guitar hero 2. thats when i got an idea. would it be possible that if used with a guitar hero controller, would it "disable" the left button all together? i have little logic behind this, its simply a silly idea, but if anyone wants to try it.... _________________

From my understanding, the earlier 3rd party guitars had BOTH the left and right buttons activated. Harmonix put in code in GHII to say "if the right d-pad is active, use as a regular PS2 controller." I'm not sure if that's the case, but that's what I thought. The later 3rd party controllers only had the left d-pad enabled so Harmonix couldn't "sabotage" them. Thanks for the suggestions though. Anyone else trying to play GF with a GH controller? I'm startin' to think that the official GF controller will be the only solution... _________________
