Ok, this sounds like a stupid question I know, but can the DDR machine record how you step on the pads? I'm writing a paper and need to include this bit of information.

Well, what do you mean? The only thing I can think of is the timing frame (Perfect, Great, etc.)

I think he might mean how much energy the player is exerting, and the amount of steps the player's feet step. If that's the case then no, it cant. It just grades accuracy.

Not in our lifetime.

Maybe he's asking if the DDR machine can record the patterns the player steps out - as in, if you could improvise steps to a song and have the machine remember them. This can't be done on arcade machines, but I'm pretty sure you can do it in Edit Mode of any PS2 version.

It is possible to get edits onto an arcade machine, via mem slots or some other way.

True, depending on the song and on the arcade machine. But the machine itself can't record your steps.

Neither can a home version.

What about the "record" option in the PS2 games' Edit Modes?

Acutally I think he means something like the "check" option for training mode in home versions, where it tells you which steps were which grades, and whether the greats/goods/almosts are early or late.
In that case, the answer is no. Arcade machines don't do that.

I don't think a DDR machine can do that kind of stuff,

That was my interpretation.
