Recently the squeaking on my homepad has been getting pretty bad. What was once a nice tapping sound is now an obnoxious screeching when I slide my feet.

I use a pair of Vans skate shoes which have the rubber worn down around the edges, so now the grip comes from the bottom, which is causing the squeaking. My homepad (in signature) has Lucite-ES plastic panels that don't seem to go well with the shoes.

I am wondering if there is anything to do to either my shoes or the panels to eliminate squeaking for good. Maybe I could reduce the friction on the plastic by coating it with a spray of some sort? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I've heard that spraying window cleaner, like Windex, on your shoes will reduce the friction. And if you have a carpeted floor, try not to step on it a lot between songs, as the carpet adds to the friction.

I'll test out Windex, but I'm still looking for a more permanent solution. I want to try out a satin finish clear spraypaint, but I don't know the end result... which is why I'll try it on a small piece of plastic first. Good idea / bad idea?

Well I tried various things, and what seemed to work okay was Rain-X on the panels. It eliminated a lot of friction for a while and stopped the squeaking (at first I would slide on it like ice, even with the grippy shoes), but it isn't as permanent as I hoped.

Hmm. I don't really know what to tell you, since I don't own a metal pad. Maybe ask in the home pad thread? Someone there might be able to help you.

Squeaking on my Flux is caused by my sweat, try reducing the amount of sweat that falls on the pad maybe?
