Why doesn't anyone use themes?

I see a lot of screenshots of StepMania that people have taking using the default theme. So I want to know why no one uses any others. I use System Zero most of the time, and I think it's great. If you ask me, it's way better then the default one.

I use Techno Fiend 3. Sweetest skin evar.

Some people just couldn't be bothered I guess.

I think one reason so many people use the default theme is because of slower overall performance while using a theme. Seriously, compare your default theme to your Extreme theme and tell me which one has smoother performance. I personally don't like using the default theme; I think it's extremely bland and just a dull remake of the awesome DDRMAX theme. But since the default theme works best, it makes most sense to use it over other themes when trying to get high scores.

I use it for the above reason and because it's easier to recognize.

I use ITG everythying, and I can honestly say there is no performance dip. I still get 300+ FPS.

And I think the default skin is ugly as hell.

Themes are ok, but they are kind of distracting and unnecessarily flashy, something I don't really enjoy. Also, I played SM on the default theme so long before I even knew about other themes that if I use another theme, my MA decreases a lot. Most people who have played awhile don't use other themes because of similar/score-oriented reasons.

I just tried a bunch of themes, and am back to the default. Some of the themes are great, but there's always some little flaw that forces me to go back to the default. A few reasons:

The new 4.0 theme looked like it avoided most of these problems, I'm happy to say.

Themes I use are Groove 2.2, Party Collectiom, Extreme VS5, and the SM4 default theme.

Depends on what type of songs im playing really, if Im playing stuff like Eggman simfiles or easier 11s/12s then i'll use the Groove 2.2 theme for percentage (KKR never worked for me).

Synaesthesia is right. I tried out the Groove 2.2 theme on my new computer and it worked absolutely fine, not dragging like it did on my other computer. The real reasons must be because that the default theme is the most refined and saves you the trouble of getting out a new theme. I always use themes, though. I like simulating what certain songs would be like on a certain game that they never appeared in (i.e., Daikenkai in 6th Mix, technically the earliest DDR game it could've appeared in, considering Pop'n Music 6 came out in mid 2001).

I haven't really changed the theme, but I'm in the process of messing with most of the pictures. For instance, when Stepmania is loading, and the lovely screen pops up, it reads "ZOMG! MUSIC!!!1" written in childish handwriting from MSpaint.

my sm runs slow randomly for no apparent reason sometimes, but it has nothing to do with the skin. it always runs the same speed for me, default skin or not.
