Hi all,

I need a pad that will last me until September. I'm going to France then, and not coming back until the following July, so until September is all the time I have to play DDR. Can anyone recommend a pad that is cheap that will last me this long? Or maybe I should just keep replacing soft pads. Any ideas?

For reference, I play on Heavy, generally on 8s and 9s. My official Konami cheapo pad is slowly starting to crap out. I tried buying one of the foam-insert RedOctane Ignition pads to replace it, but that was broken from the day I took it out of the box., Did I just get a bad Ignition? Should I try exchanging it?

If you bought your Ignition from a store, take it back and use the cash to buy another pad (they suck. Really.) If you bought it online, it'll probably be about a month before you get your replacement.

Honestly, if you're only going to be using the pad for four months, I'd suggest buying two $20 soft pads. Maybe three depending on how hard you play. Since you're only going to be using them for a short time I wouldn't invest more than $50 (if you're cheap like me that it)

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably ask for a cobalt flux for my birthday in August, so that I'll have something longer-term when I get back.

I'm off high school for the summer and so I'll have a lot of free time, some of which is going to be used playing DDR. If I play enough I'm sure I'll be able to pass harder songs by the end of the summer. Hopefully I'll be at the level of hard 9s or even some 10s. Can a soft pad stand up to those?

(The way I keep it from sliding around is by putting it on top of a chairmat.)

I used a piece of wood when I had a $20 softpad, but a chairmat probably works just as well.

Another thing I did with my softpad was cut out five 6" by 6" cardboard squares and taped them on the center and corners. It worked pretty well, and I didn't have to look down all the time to know if I was standing in the right place or not.

So um, is it bad that awhile ago I was watching Family Guy, and when Quagmire came on, I thought something to the effect of "Whoa, It's AA Bob!" (I don't remember if the exact thought was "It's AA Bob" or "It's AA Bob's avatar", but I don't think it matters in this case)?
