As you may have noticed, there are countless threads asking "what is the hardest this?" or "what is the easiest that?" has anyone noticed what these all boil down to after a few pages? Arguments about scoring difficulty and passing difficulty.
Let me clear this up for some of the confused people.
A rating is given to a song SOLELY on its difficulty to pass. Roxor does not care how hard it is to score, Roxor doesn't even care how hard it is to FC, just pass. Some people disagree with some of these ratings, I myself am one of them, but they are given to a song by general passing difficulty. People usually don't get generally better in every area, so certain techniques may become easier for hem while still struggling with others i.e. strengths and weaknesses. Disagreements on Roxor's passability ratings usually involve that player's strengths and weaknesses which are impossible to determine by the company of Roxor.
No, to prove my point, I will show you what some famous songs would look like if scoring was a difficulty.
Charlene - 10
Xuxa - 10
Utopia - Hard 11
The Beggining - 11
Mythology - Easy 11
Infection - Hard 11
July - Easy 11
Pandemonium Hard - Easy 11
Vertex2 Hard - 12
Robotix - Hard 11
Clockwerk Genesis - 12
Destiny - Easy 11
Hardcore Symphony - 11
Monolith - Hard 11
Vertex - Hard 12
HotN - Very Easy 13
Euphoria - 14
Tell - 13
Delirium - 11
Go 60's Go - Tricky 13
Bloodrush - Benchmark 12
Determinator - Unbelievably hard 13/ Easy 14
! - Hard 12
Energizer - Hard 11/ Easy 12
Pandemonium - Hard 12/ Easy 13
Summer - Easy 12
Get this one....
....you ready?
Vertex2 - Hard 15
No one here probably agrees with these ratings. I know I don't, but these are closer to the actual scoring difficulties of the songs. If you are going to argue rating because a song is hard to score (Lipstick Kiss, Euphoria, etc...) then first realize that the rating has NOTHING to do with the difficulty of ***'ing it. If it did, well, we'd already be congratulating Stewie on breaking 94 on a 15-block.
Roxor rates for passing.
Pros rate for scoring.
I hope people understand this. _________________

Kill yourselves. Now. I'm serious.
Who are you to say what Roxor does or doesn't do? _________________

I am very sorry. I shouldn't have been near as adamant as I was. It just seems that I'm right with this with charts like Lipstick Kiss, Sweet World, Clockwerk Genesis, Euphoria, and Vertex2 that are all much harder to score than the rest of the songs in their difficulty. And yes Tiza, I don't have any right to make these claims. I was wrong.
I was just frustrated about how people don't respect opinions here because they say "you shouldn't talk about scoring" or "you shouldn't talk about how hard it is to pass". In my frustration, I obviously posted this...without thinking I might add.
So I don't know, I guess this can be locked to save my already hurt reputation. I will still stand that it SEEMS that the ratings are based solely on passability, and others here would agree with me to some extent. _________________

I would fully agree that ratings are based on passing difficulty or as I like to say, even if passing isn't necessarily an issue, the amount of "effort" required to play the song. A lot of the "re-rating's" you suggested would be fairly accurate imo if they were based on score. The thing is that it makes perfect sense to base a difficulty on passing rather than scoring... the foot/bar rating is only useful to people who are at the passing stage of the song. They see an 11 and think "I might be able to do this" whereas a 12 would be a no-no. The people who are focusing on score have no use for these ratings as it doesn't matter.... they've already gotten much past the point where passing is an issue if you're going for high scores. _________________

This is a bit of a deceptive topic title, if I may say so. _________________

The whole pass ranking is stupid because if you cant pass the songs you are talking about or have difficulty passing them, you are not inclined to make any arguements about what they should be ranked. _________________

Acutally its the opposite. We don't need rankings to tell us how hard a song is if we can play it. We obviously know how hard a song is if we're in the league of that song. We know that by playing it. Ranking are there for people who haven't played a song before and would like to know if their able to pass it. If it weren't for rankings people would fail songs left and right and thus waste their well spent $.75.
In other words, short version. Rankings are so you know what you should be able to pass and should not be able to pass before you play it. Rankings have no other sensible purpose beyond bragging rights of what rank you can beat (which can easily be accomplished with song titles as well). |
