Remember, everything is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to read without speed mods and Cel arrow skin. You can never get good scores if you play 1x on anything. EVER.

Here's a few suggestions:

Learn which arrow colors go to what beats. I.E:
Red = 1/4
Blue = 1/8
Purple = 1/12 and 1/24 (triplets)
Green = 16th
Orange = 1/32
Turquoise = 1/64th (VERY rare)

Learn to identify arrow patterns as they appear in order to plan which direction you should be facing. This is especially true of cross-overs, step-jumps and candle steps.

Listening to songs on Stepmania or the home versions of DDR and ITG with the assist ticks makes for a WONDERFUL learning tool. Learn how various arrow patterns sound at various speeds.

That is so not true. I 1x for almost every song, the highest I go is 2x for songs with orange in them but other then that 1x is the way to go because you have so much more reaction time. Note i don't use the bar. If you want to play a game where you absolutly need speed mods go play PIU I have to almost always go 2x on that, only a few songs i can actually 1x.

I bet your scores would be better if you used speed mods.

I was being sarcastic. People SAY you can't get good scores without speed mods, but that's bullcrap. They just suck at reading low speeds (hey, we can both tell it like it is every now and then).

Perhaps you could point us towards a Recall or Groovestats to actually quantify what kind of scores you get.

You're right! After all, I owe you that much.

My VJArmy account.
My Groovestats account.
My DDRecall account.

I don't need to quantify jack shit to you. You can go and believe what you want about my scores; because this is a pointless argument dictated not by logic, but by whichever play method is "accepted" by the greatest number of players. Back in 2002, it was 1x play, and no speed-modders were taken seriously. Now, it's modded play, and no unmodded players are taken seriously.

Neither play methods are without their merits, but leave it to the peanut gallery to say that playing any other way than what's done by everyone else is WRONG. Yes, I realize that this is going in one ear and out the other; and that there are MORE than enough people that want to tell me off because "ITG iz about teh speed modz!!1111 y0r not gUUd if you don't hav teh hi scors!" but to continue with this overplayed debate is a one-way ticket to a headache for everyone involved. So let's just drop it, alright? *Waves the white flag of surrender*

How about we not get into a redundant fight about speed mods.

The only word i have to say about someone not using speed mods and getting great scores is: Pickles biggrin.gif

All that ranting and you didn't once realize that Synaesthesia asked Mostly_Harmless for a GS or DDRecall account and not you?

The whole point of my post was to STOP the speed mod debate on this topic, guys. I instantly submitted on this argument because I wanted to NOT make this one of the hundreds of topics covering this stupid issue. I'd have never made that initial smart-ass remark in the first place if I thought it'd be blown out of proportion like this. Please, no matter WHICH side you take on this issue, just let it drop, okay?

How about you stop bringing it up in every god damn post you make.

We all know you play 1x, and no one gives a shit.

I don't advertise in every post I make that I play no bar, because I know no one cares, and if they do, they can just look at my groovestats.

speed mods are definately the answer, but also im not sure if the ITG home version has it, but i know the DDR home version does.

it a practice mode where u can slow down the steps, but also have them spaced so u can practice how to read em and then on occasion speed it up just so u get a feel for the song.

1x is for cheaters. The game was intended to be played with speed mods and the bar so if you don't like to play that way then you are a cheater. And if there's anything I can't stand it's a cheater in a dancing game.

Freakin cheaters.

Fat people are almost better than 1x players.

Seriously, fat people.

I don't see the point. You are using your feet to smash arrows on a metal pad looking at a screen and looking like you are having a seizure.

I'll just throw in my two cents here.

Speed mods are just different ways of playing. I will admit that I think everyone can agree speed mods make it easier to play, they help you to read the song. My recommendation is for people to do what I've done, which is learn to play with speed mods, so you don't have the issue where you can physically do the steps, if you only knew what steps to do. On each song, once you get good at doing the steps, try dropping the speed mods to see how low you can go.

I used speed mods exclusively when I couldn't pass very many songs, but after I got better, I've slowed it down to teach myself how to read slower parts of the song. Its more helpful to be skilled in reading both. And you will get better quicker with speed mods, or at least I have. You can always learn to read slow later.
