Red octane 3 will be quieter, but it will also suck ALOT more than a good ol tx4000 E1.gif

If it was me, I'd only play DDR on a pad at home when your downstairs neighbors are not home.

I have the exact same problem as you. I modded my Ignition by adding a second layer of foam to the bottom of it, and I could play 11's with not much noise vibrations. I decided to build my own metal pad, and is it ever LOUD. I'm lucky to have a very understanding downstairs neighbour who is a fitness buff and understands I do DDR for cardio, so he doesn't mind. If your neighbours mind the noise, believe me there is a lot of it from a metal pad.

is there any way to mod the metal pad to be quieter?

if I could, I'd rather have a TX4000;).

I had that you have to do the reset code everytime you play on stepmania on the red octane.

I've never had to use any sort of reset code with my RO (k, well the RO Ignition PCB now) to use with Stepmania.

There's probably ways to make the TX a bit quieter (myself, I put a layer of foam underneath mine but it doesn't do much) but your best bet would be to talk to your downstairs neighbours if you really want to use a metal pad. Ask them what their work/school schedule is and try to DDR around it.
