If you don't even know where to start, this project is not for you. Modern controller standards are hard to design your own stuff for......and this is why just about every build-your-own-pad guide in the world starts off with a cheap soft pad or Dual Shock, because the board is done and all you have to do is solder on the wires.

However, if you wanted a solution and don't mind buying a bunch of controllers, this is what I would do:

1 xbox controller
1 dual shock
1 cheap usb gamepad, or whatever works(I don't know if usb gamepads are a good idea)
4 cables(d-sub or whatever) running enough different wires in them for your pad, three of one gender and the other gender(goes on pad) on the last

Cut all the cables at one end so that the wires hang loose for soldering. Crack open the controllers and take out the boards. Solder the three cables to your controller boards, and the last one to the pad. You'll have to keep a pinout map for the pad so that you know where to solder each pin on the controllers.

Then stick all of the boards in your cbox. I'm not going to touch the "buttons on cbox" issue because that complicates things too much. If you had two boxes, one with the buttons and one with the boards, and then just ran the wiring from the pad to the button box and then finally out to the boards it wouldn't be so bad.

Good luck chum.

D-Sub is just the type of connector, its a peice with 9 pins that fit into a female version of D-sub and connectors on the back for wires. Depending on the type the wires can get crimped on or soldered

Use a 15pin d-sub. E1.gif And eliminate the USB portion. You should be able to simply chop up another Xbox connector and create a USB adapter (Xbox controllers are essentially just USB).

redoctane.com has the control box that you are looking for!

redoctane sells it for $24.99 or $19.99 if it is on sale!

but I've been hearing bad things abtout the control box.

So say I have a wire coming for the 4 direction arrows going tinto the d-sub

Starting form the top row.

0-ground
1-up
2-down
3-left
4-right.

So this on the d-sub the pins will correspond to those wire right?
