I saw In The Groove in the store, and just wondered if it's actually any good. Is it as good, better, or worse than DDR?

It is really an opinion, some think that ITG is the new DDR, wile other hate ITG and think it is a total rip off. Also there some people who like them both. Like cfusionpm said above, really, it is the same kind of game, just new songs, stepcharts, mines and hands.

Well, i'll always be a huge fan of DDR... but ITG is pretty fun. It takes DDR, bumps up the difficulty and challenge much more and adds some fun to it (e.g mines, hands, rolls, mod features, etc...). I definetly think you should get it. Don't feel like you're ripping off or abandoning DDR. It'll always be there, plus you can play it whenever. E13.gif

I definitely say ITG is better than DDR, and I'd say go for the purchase.

But more over, if you could find an actual arcade version near you, save your money and use it all on that laugh.gif . Load times kinda slow the pace down on the PS2. If not, go for PS2. Just get your damn ITG fix E4.gif

Depends on what you want..

If you are a person who finds fun in difficulty, ITG is your game.

If you are a person who finds fun in rhythm and music and just letting go on the dance mat, then stick with DDR.

I find stepcharts on ITG to be bland and the songs to be boring. This is just my own opinion.. ITG is still fun though.. buy it and give it a try... hands are pretty fun to do.. Though if I want hands, I can always make an edit to a DDR song in Stepmania.

Mines are a nice fun addition as well.

It all depends on your own taste. You wanna play keyboard songs on your feet? Go ITG. You just wanna mess around to J-pop and Eurobeat and stuff that DDR has? Just play with DDR.

A forewarning, if you are on Standard on DDR.. don't play Oasis.. it's steps are a beat off from what I hear.

If you are asking a total opinion... DDR is better. Hands down for me.

If you want a suggestion, try ITG, and see if you like it.
It is worth 50$ just because its a DDR-style game. Noteskins take a couple games to get used to though.

Ok I'm done typing...

If you're not sure about buying ITG now, then wait for ITG2 to come out. ITG is pretty cool, but ITG2 is far better than the first one. They cleaned up a lot of the problems in terms of stepcharts, etc. that the first game had, and they're likely to iron out the bugs that the first PS2 game had.

and hopefully not take the release date and push it back every time is was SUPPOSED to be released...seeming how the game might be better if they do that. blink.gif

the release date was only pushed back once. I have no idea why people keep bitching over what was obviously the fault of gameshops such as Gamestop and EB.

Because they either don't read or can't understand the statements made regarding the situation, in which case they're functionally illiterate.

If you are bored with DDR songs and/or want to play somthing harder then 10's (or more interesting songs... even the 7's and 8's are more fun then ddr's in my mind....)its definitely worth picking up

It's definitley fun, but what i think makes it just a little more interesting is the selection of mods. If you find yourself at an arcade with ITG, try Marathon mode and select a course that has the word "MOD" on the left corner of the graphic. I think you'll be pleasently surprised :)

ITG is way better than DDR....but sometimes I get sick of it a bit and go back to playing DDR and it is still really fun. ITG also hels improve your DDR skills cause its has alot of insane songs that make all the max songs look like nothin

I actually don't own the home version, play exclusively in the arcade; but yeah I would say pick it up it's probably a fun break at the very least.

Both In The Groove and DDR are completely inferior beat games. Musically, both have subpar, generic music (ItG's main being trance, DDR's being worthless, repetetive Naoki junk), although ItG at least has the occasional good song like Vertex, while DDR has really nothing going for it. As far as steps, both games have stupid stepcharts. DDR has charts that are far too easy and fail to utilize the main melody in the song at most times, while ItG is comprised of overly buffed stepcharts that are almost stupid. Oh, and ItG has Utopia expert, which is the worst piece of trash someone could call "steps" ever. : )
