I present an idea: A version of DDR that allows you to, via your console's Internet connection, import MP3's and video files, write stepfiles for them, save all these to your memory card, and take them to the arcade. Just imagine being able to DDR to any song you can think of. It can't be that hard to do--why doesn't something like this exist yet from Konami? And yes, I know about Goo Goo Soundy, but that doesn't really count. _________________

How would you be able to transfer data from your memory card to an arcade machine? Plus, so many people would be doing this the arcade machine would have to have excess memory for all the songs going in. I don't think it would work. _________________

Some arcade machines have memory card slots. so the machine wouldnt keep the data the memory card would. _________________

OK.... so once they made this game konami would never be able to sell another version of DDR because one person would buy it... rip the mp3's from it and create steps charts and easily distribute it to everyone else... this would be a horrible financial choice for konami no matter how cool it would be... |

Or, Konami can make a new DDR and you can enter your name/nickname and it saves the scores for each song.... And a DDR Machine that is hooked up to another one so that up to 4 people can compete against each other. _________________

They already made that. It's called Ultramix. It's crap.
Extreme was the last DDR arcade machine. The end.

The only flaws I see here is this:
DDR Arcade machine has interface for Playstation 1 cards. The last time I checked, PS1 cards only hold up to 128k of writable memory. So, Konami would have to update to USB Devices (ala In The Groove).
Loading would have to be off the USB Device, obviously, since the DDR machine wouldnt have enough writable memory to store the abundance of songs that would be uploaded daily. If USB 1.1 is used, it might take awhile to load each song, so theyd probably have to go to USB 2.0.
Other small stuff like explicit lyrics, song length and foot ratings come to mind too, but thats just going too far into it. This is all hypothetical and theoritical stuff, but it would be an interesting idea. _________________

As Reenee mentioned, I don't think Konami could do something like this because the RIAA would see this as one gigantic act of piracy. All of the music in DDR has to have some kind of consent to be put on the game. The Konami Originals are there because they were produced by Konami and thus they have free use of them, and the licensed songs are there either via the Dancemania licensing agreement or through alternative licenses made by Konami for the home versions here. Even if you just loaded it up to play at the arcade, and once you left, it was gone, it probably falls under some category of "illegal broadcast and/or performance." The fact that you'd be doing it with MP3 files that may or may not rightfully belong to you wouldn't help either. It's not that I think something like this is stupid, in fact I think it's a pretty cool idea. I just know that it probably wouldn't work.
All that being said, you can put Stepmania into an arcade cabinet. People have done it before, as you can see in pictures such as these made by one of the developers found at the Stepmania website. I don't know if it could fully realize the idea you have in mind, but it's probably the closest you'll get to it. |

that could be done but it would be easy for an ultramix game to do it because u can download songs into your X-box then after u have done that u could tranfer it into EDIT then make ur own song...i think |

Unless they did something to figure it out, the BPM/changes/stops could be a problem. _________________

theres already somthing like this but it works in a diffrerent way its called STEPMANIA. what u can do is get a ps2-compouter converter hook your pad up and do all that stuff and boom there ya go playing music u downloaded on pad in Stepmania, except its rare to find a converter that can handle such fast button pressing. _________________

Are these PS-To-PC adapters the ones that are so rare, Level Six has like, 4 that will work with DDR pads? Which are always nearly in stock?
And um, the last time I checked, your computer isnt a DDR Cabinet. _________________
