I havn't been on these boards for a while (besides the random post every once in a while).
What happened?!?!
(most) All the post anymore are people complaining about newbs how they brag about how "good" they are or how they pwn'd someone because they are so much better.
I'm not complaining, but what it looks like to me is that alot of these "newb bashing posts" are posted by people who have just reached heavy and are trying to feel proud about it by dissing someone else who is trying to feel proud they're self.
I've been playing for 2 1/2+ years and I have 10 Different Heavy AAA's, to many Black Flags, and can't pass PSMO. I treats every player, from beginer to pro, with the same respect that I expect.
We were all there (some of you still are). We all got proud the first time we full combo'd a ligh 3 footer. We had to brag to someone the first AA we got (on any difficulty), and we all (still) complain when we can't pass something/improve a score.
I guess what I'm saying is that everybody is human and everybody is different. A friend of mine has been playing about 6-7 months, he's 15 (I'm 19) and he's almost as good as me (in some cases better). Be carefull who you pick on because one day they can come back and AAA your buttocks blind folded with both legs tied behind they're ears!
Please just be a little more kind to everyone else. The rules of civilization still apply in the arcade and online...
(Oh, and so you don't think that I'm just some newb who got his feelings hurt and wanted to cry about it in front of everyone. here are my scores for DDRecall: http://www.ddrecall.com/user.php?mode=viewprofile&user=167)

We were all that bad at one point so we shouldn't mock other peoples progress besides one day they might come back and PWN your sorry butts into the dirt with their new skills and AAA you back into light mode. |

I've been on these boards for quite a while as well (*points to join date*), and I remember when we never used the terms "newb" (newbies) and "n00b" (people who are rude and condescending) interchangeably. Granted, there was less to the game and it was easier to navigate the boards without seeing so many locks, but still. To pull out the old cliche, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all. DDR Freak used to be known as a great source of information and decent discussion, and nowadays, people on other Bemani forums poke fun at how ridiculous some of you act. Your actions, as little as they may be, reflect this site as a whole, and all it takes are a few flames or a couple of really childish topics (such as ridiculing the newbies, to name one) to bring this site down.
I remember the days where the average DDR player played on Basic and easy Trick (Light/Standard), and the initiation rite out of newbie-hood was to pass Paranoia on Basic. We were helping each other out, and we were a lot nicer to each other in those days. Since the game's pretty much dead, and everyone has been heading closer and closer to perfection of the same 256 stepcharts, people have been getting better faster and suddenly the elitist vibe has pushed kindness towards newbies out the window. Seriously, some of you guys take this way too seriously, and it's good if you're competitive, but you don't have to be assholes about it.
Seriously, guys. Read before you post, ignore the trolls, PLEASE try to use decent spelling and grammar, be nice -- is that too much to ask on this fine intarweb? |

*Applauds* Very well said Julie.
I'm a nice person in general, and always treat anyone (DDR players or not) with respect unless someone gives me a valid reason not to. It's always worked for me! _________________

Very well said. And I will quote: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.***
We all were Beginners, folks...be nice to the newbies.
***Better yet: If you don't have anything to say, don't say anything. _________________

I think all that people have said about game niceities translates perfectly to forum behavior as well. We all came to this board, or some message board at some point, with a droolingly idiotic newb mentality and no full understanding of posting rules. That didn't make us all intentionally rude, useless trolls did it? The same goes for those that come to this forum now and make some well-meaning but misguided posts.
I noticed that someone who politely corrected a newbie in a new thread that belonged elsewhere applauded himself briefly for his exceeding "niceness". Sorry bud, but newbies always deserve that kind of courtesy; with all due respect it doesn't make you golden to not act like an arse, it just makes you a more desirable norm. |

i agree with what all has been said. i cant remember the days when everyone in ddr was nice to noobs. i have only been on these forums for a few months and have only played ddr for a year. i wish it was still the way you guys say it was in ddr's early years, when everyone was nice to noobs and to each other.
P.S. God help us, Vangulus is a trick member. lol. just playing witcha man. _________________

EDIT:On topic I see that Julie Q made a good point too much thing taken into just perfecting the game is slowly killing it.Those who are just starting are made fun of. All newbs don't start that way. That's where the vetsa nd long time players come in or just those with some decency and common sense to help them out then someday they can get just as good.

To the originial poster, you do know why a lot of this "death to newb/n00b/[insert some other whacked-out spelling]" mentality comes from the super-l33t players (including those who *think* they are)? Because newbs get better, and eventually get as good as the super-l33ts. The more people who can pass 10s, AAA PSMO, get 97% on Pandemonium Expert on 5x Blink Dizzy Drift Tornado Boomerang Split Floored, or what have you, the less awesome that accomplishment is (or less exclusive, wherein awesomeness of the player is directly proportional to the exclusivity of the accomplishment). People helped me out in the past, so I feel like I should return the favor to other new players. Also, it gets kind of lonely being the only player in the bowling alley who can play above Trick--I'm trying to change that. _________________
