Every now and again, a thread gets going on some new topic (most recently, the Konami lawsuit amendment) and gets a lot of good input in it. Then, a day later, that topic ends up on the front page of DDR Freak as a headline, gets an official thread, and the old thread is locked off.

Why is this done? Why not just link the existing thread from the headline?

It's frustrating to have to move the discussion elsewhere when information is already in play.

What I don't understand is why two earlier topics were closed and then another one opened up by a moderator about the same thing. Wouldn't it make more sense to leave the first topic up and move it if necessary, as opposed to creating a new one? Or do moderators just want to feel special by pretending that they found the news?

The alternative to this was to bump the month old Trouble In Grooveland thread, which would have been stupid given the importance of the news. Instead of moving these on to DDR Chit Chat or where ever, they were locked (with annoying moderator commentary) and linked to the new one that was just created with the same discussion. This doesn't make sense.

I can't answer for where or how MiltyKiss got the news about the updated suit, so I can't really speak on that particular scenario.

What I will say is this: The way our headline system works, we like to be able to have that Comments: ### say something other than zero. When we headline a thread, if we refer to another thread link, then we have two choices - either let the headline thread get its own discussion (which causes splintered discussion and confusion among users), or we lock it and the article always shows "0 comments". That's why we have official headline threads. Not because of some cocked-up "I'm more important than everyone!" scheme like toady wishes were the case.

And toady, no amount of indirect jabs at me are going to make me remove those warn points. I'm not the only one who believes you knew exactly what the fuck you were doing. Get over yourself.

Congratulations to all the winners of this edition of "IN BEFORE THE LOCK!"

You all are truly special people who excel at increasing their postcount by cleverly posting to threads you know are about to go the way of the dodo. What would we ever do with you?

The thread you are sarcasticly commenting on is the first thread about the topic that to my knowledge appeared on the site. Nobody had any knowledge the thread would, or should, have been locked given the breaking news. Instead you chose to insult everyone carrying on a discussion in the thread instead of simply locking it, which is completely unnecessary.

And although I do feel the warning points were exaggerated, and I disagree with them in number, don't think I would try to get them reduced by attacking you. It's not that important. I already explained my position via PM and it was rejected, end of story. The fact is that the comments you left were not needed (and nor was the edit of my post to say "I like to post gay porn" when it was neither pornographic nor homosexual in natural). I would be saying the same thing about any other moderator who feels the need to get in a smart-ass comment before they lock the thread instead of just doing their job, which frankly I see a lot, you are just in the thread in question.
