This isn't intended to be another "favorite songs" thread. Instead, it's meant to discuss a topic which probably hasn't been talked about enough.

In your opinion, what are the classics of DDR? What are the songs that every DDR player worth his or her salt has heard or played at least once? What are the songs that have become so ingrained into the DDR community that they have become synonymous with the words "Dance Dance Revolution"?

In short, what songs could be called "The Essentials"?

My votes are for:
Dynamite Rave
Max 300
Drop the Bomb
B4U
Dam Dariram

Please discuss.

P.S. In case it isn't obvious enough, I'm a first-time poster. Thanks for posting!

CuriosityInc., I applaud you for a great newbie post. Well thought-out and if anyone tries to flame you for this one, I'll be a very angry girl. blink.gif

I'm going to to strictly oldschool with this one, just because I'm biased like that. My choices:

Butterfly and Butterfly Upswing -- When DDR first became popular with 3rd Mix, Butterfly Upswing was THE song to be whored to look cool while playing SSR (Maniac Mode + Flat).

Dynamite Rave -- When DDR first became popular with 3rd Mix, Dynamite Rave was THE song to be whored to look like an idiot with doing the most trite and unoriginal handplants, spins, and kneedrops while freestyling. Once upon a time, you could come to DDR Freak and see a person post, "OMG LYK I CAME UP WIT DA MOST ORIGINAL DR RUUTEEN OMG OMG HANDSLAPS KNEEDROPS", and it would be treated the same as people who post about 10 footer accomplishments outside of the accomplishment thread. Auto flame-mod-lock combo. biggrin.gif

Boom Boom Dollar -- I'm sure everyone who started on anything below a 5th Mix would have this song as one of the first three songs they played, up there with Have You Never Been Mellow and Butterfly. Except this one was more annoying sounding and faster, so of course people picked it. And failed. But that's life. biggrin.gif

Trip Machine -- When people started to realize they couldn't step on the downbeat to get the perfect all the time, the lightbulb finally clicked on.

Brilliant 2U -- Worst Heavy steps ever, but that's okay, cause you could play the much cooler Orchestra Groove mix! Great song to transition levels (from Basic to Trick, from Trick to Maniac).

Hot Limit -- The only long version song that anyone remembers because it's the only long version song worth playing.

Anything by E-Rotic -- *tear* I miss that stuff.

Afronova -- Essential because when 3rd Mix was around and the only thing to play for a while, Afronova was the "impressive" looking song to play, and when people could A it, it took the crowd's breath away.

Paranoia -- Once upon a time, there used to be a convention in the DDR community that you were a "newbie" until you passed Paranoia on Basic (Light). If you called yourself a "newbie", people would just automatically assume that you hadn't accomplished this feat. It was sort of like the adulthood ritual to being good at DDR. Of course times have changed and the average DDR player is well beyond Paranoia Basic, but still, Paranoia is classic nevertheless.

Drop Out -- The first "fast" song. Ouch! Probably the song that began the bar war.

Max 300 -- First 10 footer. The song that truly ignited the bar war. When someone could PASS this, it was THE news of the DDR community. Oh, how times have changed.

Bag -- The song that ignited the speed mod war. And then we realized triplets were offsync and all hell in the PA community broke loose.

Remixes don't count. Besides that only appeared once and is barely considered a "classic" besides it's a lot easier than MAX300. nono.gif

...What? Just because I was only 8 when DDR came to U.S. soil doesn't mean I have no experience with past Mixes.

Great first post. riiight.gif my classics are pretty much the same as the ones above so im not gonna bother listing them. Keep up the good work with posting and stuff and you shall be on the " noobs that dont act like noobs" list. I heard someone mention that earlier and i think you should be on it.

Even though I was about 12 when I first heard of DDR, I remember that Butterfly US-M was THE song to play, and passing it on Maniac ment you were good.

That song is almost the sole of DDR. That was how a lot of people remembered the game.

I miss it. E2.gif
