I read this FAQ entry, and then I see a *stickied* thread where its sole purpose is to provide links to websites with simfile downloads. Basically DDR Freak is breaking its own rules here, since a big part of simfiles are MP3s of copyrighted music and copyrighted graphics. Now, please do not treat this as an attack or a flame or whatever. Why is this OK, yet talk of where to find MP3s or whatever is not?
The reason I am bringing this up is because I lead a project that upgrades simfiles' audio. Basically my project's packs only come with audio. Lossless DDR music to be exact; its purpose: to replace the DDR:UK simfiles' MP3s. However, that doesn't mean that this is the only way my packs could be used. They could be used to make an exact (or better) sounding copy of DDR soundtracks. But you can make CDs of the MP3s from the simfiles, they're just not lossless.
With that said, would me posting information on this project, in DDRFreak's eyes, violate forum rules and be cause for my ban from the website? Is this post cause for a ban since anyone reading this thread with half a brain would be able to find the project's packs I speak of? _________________

Simfiles without MP3 files = OKIE DOKIE.
MP3's of copyrighted material (i.e. DDR music) = NO-NO.
From what I gather, the files that make up the steps for simfiles are original, made by whoever wanted to make the steps for another program. They are not direct copies of media from any game (like pulling files directly off a disc). The steps are not copyrighted. The music, however, is copyrighted. So music files are frowned upon, while the step files that are written by other people that want them released are fine. _________________

It's basically like if you linked to say x website when someone asks for a site with Bemani information. If x website happens to have something we don't allow you to ask for that's OK, because that wasn't stated and so it's not our problem.
Same thing applies with simfiles. You want simfiles, fine, and if you just happen to stumble across some music along the way that's not our business.
(Maybe one of the Sim forum mods could explain this a bit better.)
Since your project only involves copyrighted audio, it wouldn't be good for you to post about your project here. |
