Just recieved the machine here.

What an utter dissappointment. Played it once and I'll never play it again. You can cut corner with the display, usbs or whatever but DON'T EVER cut corners when it comes to gameplay. The pads are HORRENDOUS.......

I just got to play on one of these cabinets today. The pads are SO UNRESPONSIVE that I nearly failed songs that I've AAA'd or SDG'd on older mixes. Guess what? There's only one sensor per arrow. E19.gif

Here's a video I shot, illustrating the wonders of this glorious machine:

Konami made the cabinet and pads for the first Boomers test. Betson made the full production ones (i.e. the wooden pads and horrible sensors).

I doubt Betson would recall a machine/pads they intentionally released crappy. They're already trying to place blame on Konami just because Betson doesn't know how to do their job and trying to save money.

So like.....why is everyone fixing stuff that isn't broken? I will make sure my local arcade gets an upgrade for our 5th mix instead of a dedicab. Fuck you Betson for killing DDR's hardware in the US. Stop trying to save money and be a good company for once.

Nah, should be the same cabinet unless they (BMI) import directly from Japan. (in which case I'd buy one in a second!) Betson has the production rights in the US (correct me if I'm wrong). Coinop express is in Hong Kong, so you'd most likely get the JP cabinet. I imaging shipping costs would be insane though!

I played on a DDRX JP Dedicab when I was in Japan a few times.

I didn't know the American version was gonna' be constructed differently.

As an ITG player I was impressed with the improved quality of the cabinet.

(I won't speak about the DDRX gamplay. Not a fan. E10.gif)

The screen was amazing, the added USB ports were amazing, and for a DDR cabinet, the pads were amazing.

I'll say the pads on the DDRX JP cabinets were better than any previous DDR pads, but not as good as ITG2 Dedicab pads.

So yeah, just somewhere inbetween Extreme pads and ITG2 pads.

Raising the panels a bit would definitely be a good idea. Doing so might even make the pads comparable to ITG2 dedicab pads.

Definitely a good ITG2 dedicab substitute at least.

Overall, Konami really improved on the DDRX JP pads.

None of that long metal sheet skinny crap garbage Betson pads over there.

While it's not a surprise that they'd screw up the cabinets, it is a surprise that they'd screw them up to this insane degree. This means I'll be writing to the manager of the bowling ally I play at. We have an SN2 machine (SN dedicab) at the moment and I want to let him know that if we upgrade it'd be better to get a kit.
This machine has shown Betson's crappiness as well. The subs have blown twice to my knowledge, and for a while there was often a faint popping, almost helicoptorey noise coming from the speakers.
Does anyone know why Konami keeps letting Betson make the dedicabs? They're as aware as anyone else of how Betson likes to make it's machines. Remember how SN was gonna have memory card slots? Yeah.

sunday - we received the DDRX machine
wednesday - an out of order sign is placed on the machine due to poopy pads

pretty sad when you got kids complaining about the pads and the parents are asking the employees why it's not working

There is very little I can say that no one else has said about the new model of the machine. The machine I was playing was moving back and forth from my game play. as I played knocking into other machines. At first I thought the coasters were not down but when I took a peek and saw they were on the ground, Quite the experience playing Can't Stop Falling In Love Speed Mix on that machine. I just hope for a conversion kit to come out for existing DDR machines.

in case some people were wondering, as of right now you can't upgrade from SN2 or below to X, the hardware is different.

You, sir, know nothing about upgrades. When there's a hardware upgrade, the hardware is part of the upgrade. You simply remove the inner guts and replace them with new guts and attach a few adapters. They did this for Extreme -> SN conversions and SN/2 uses brand new hardware from Extreme.

The game is designed for use with a wide-screen monitor. If the software doesn't support a 4:3 ratio, then a hardware upgrade might be out of the question, unless you like playing on a squished screen.

ok, thanks for that info

i guess then i should have said as of right now you can't upgrade to X on older ddr machines because X upgrade kits don't exist

i read somewhere that the reason there's no upgrades is because of the hardware differences.

Actually, if you notice during gameplay, the arrows aren't aligned completely to the left or right, you just see more of the video or dancing stage. Asia/Japan got conversion kits and they work fine with older monitors. You'll find a few screenshots showing that the "Marvelous Full Combo" image that appears on the results screen will be partially covered up by the AAA image, showing that the game just readjusts itself to fit on a different ratio.
