What is it with people and playing in skate shoes? the only thing worse than skate shoes would have to be flip flops. I don't get you peeps. _________________

Some skate shoes aren't bad for DDR; I used to play in a pair of Etnies all the time and I could PA pretty well in them and I could do 10's. |

Negative. The only disadvantage to skate shoes are the weight. The large surface area makes it way easier to cheat hands than it is with running shoes. _________________

That, and they can be either too grippy (DC shoes) or not grippy enough (certain pairs of Vans). I find Etnies, specifially the Callicut shoe, to be the most balanced; not horribly heavy, but heavier than usual and has good grip. |

The only DC's I've played in are the Court Graffik ones. Mine are similar to these, but have pinstripes on the DC logo instead of the graffiti stuff:
It might be just the pads I play on, but they grip a little too much and squeak a lot. |

(about skate shoes, too lazy to quote)
...also their freakishly loose and bulky? idk I guess it's just a matter of preference. _________________

Am I the only person that plays on a high level shoeless? Earlier today I passed determinator on my cobalt flux shoeless and it hurt like hell. I took out the first two screws on each panel and i play without the lexcan and it works fine. |

Barefoot is great for running, but not ddr/itg. Mainly due to the metal corners and potential for cutting your foot open.
I've been thinking of trying these out:
http://www.barefootrunner.com/2009/03/review-feelmax-panka/
or a Huarache sandal.
Every shoe I've used to play ddr/itg in kills me feet.
Either my toes get crushed.
or
The arc of my foot kills do to thick soles and/or heel which does not allow the foot to bend properly. (I primarily use my forefoot). |

sambas. Sometimes the arches hurt, but they have the right amount of grip. Sliding your feet off the acrylic makes the playing a lot smother anyway. |

my beef with sambas:
- grip like CRAZY if one single little drop of sweat gets on the pad
- WAAAAYYY too loose
- THE PAIN _________________

Those look pretty beast, except the bottom would get worn through pretty quick on my flux; probably would last awhile at the arcade. _________________

Once I outgrow my Asics (which might be pretty soon, lol), I'm planning on getting either these Nike Frees:
or these Adidas Goodyears:

The goodyears look ok, if they're tight enough... is it just me, or is there anyone else who can't play unless their shoes are freakishly tight? _________________

I don't feel like they are loose at all? Maybe my feet are wider/I have a small size.
I do remember liking my old pair of asics which were pretty tight, so maybe I have just grown used to sambas.... |

Everyone should just go with the proven shoe winners and use Pumas--preferably track and field. I use Puma Taper SP and pass up to 14. My friend from college just went out and bought a regular pair of Puma shoes and he does up to 13. I also can pass up to 14's with my New Balance 811 running shoes, but I prefer the Pumas.
Here is what matters in a shoe:
- lightweight (IMPORTANT; get a mesh design and not a huge shoe)
- flexible (can you create a flat surface by arching your foot?)
- Grip (not as much of an issue with bar, but still important)
- Relatively flat surface on bottom. Do NOT play in Nike Shox. _________________
