I bought mine used, but I'm pretty sure that is a mistake. I would email CF if I were you.

I bought the new control box with the usb connection but my vista computer won't recognize it. My old XP computer does recognize it as a "RedOctane USB Pad." How do I make it work in vista????

In the year or so that I've had my Cobalt Flux V2 pads, I've found three issues, two of which I found fixes or workarounds, and one that will hopefully be resolved with a new control box...

Issue #1: right out of the box, one of the pad's up/right arrows was triggering the right arrow.

Fix: Remove and reposition both the up/right and right arrow on that pad.

Issue #2: Doubles bar creaks often and sometimes slips out from one of the screws in the pad.

Workaround/Fix: Attach the doubles bar with the open side up, rather than down (just don't step in the gap between the left pad and the right pad).

Issue #3: Pressing the center button of one of the pads is also triggering the right arrow.

Fix: None--it's a control box issue. New control boxes that are compatible with Pump It Up are being ordered but the issue has been shown to be a control box issue (rather than a pad issue) because using swapping control boxes reproduced the same issue on the other pad that didn't show the issue until the control boxes were swapped.

Therefore, I'd suggest that Cobalt Flux also needs to add a few extra steps to their post-assembly quality checking before they actually ship out the pads. They are great pads, durable too, but for the cost I would expect not even minor pad or control box issues to exist for at least a couple of years (even though the warranty is technically six months).

My pad got stuck at their customer support place for 3 months, then lost, so they're sending my a Cobalt Flux School Platform. I see it retails for $799, but how does it compare to a regular flux?

Hi people,

I just got my Cobalt Flux (less than one week after I ordered it biggrin.gif) and I have a problem. In stepmania's menus, when I'm using the left and right arrows to select the song, even stepping lightly and quickly on an arrow often triggers the arrow twice : stepmania skips to the song after the next instead of just the next one. It also appears to happen in the main menu i.e. with the top and bottom arrows.

I also have a TX-4000 with which i've never had this problem. It has the exact same control box. I tried switching the control boxes but it didn't change anything. Still no problem with the TX-4000 and this rebound thing with the CF.

So I'm not sure what I should do. I wanted to tighten the screws but they appear to be very tight already.

Is that a common problem with the flux? I hope I won't have to send it back since I live in europe and it cost me 150 euros just for the shipment.

Any ideas? frown.gif

Nah, I've always had those issues while selecting a song with my flux, but it never seems to affect gameplay.

Mmmh... okay... I've been able to solve the problem using InputDebounceSeconds in stepmania 4.0 but I really hate this version. I tried using PadStickSeconds in stepmania 3.9 but it didn't work. Maybe I'll try installing stepmania 3.95 or 3.9+.

EDIT : Ok, problem fixed with 3.9+, setting InputDebounce to 0.05 worked perfectly E1.gif

Now it only works sometimes, it's really frustrating and it takes forever to get a game in. Vista will say "unknown device" and it will not accept input. It's like the computer keeps losing the driver, that or it's a USB hub problem.

Even if I disconnect it, this will happen.

Hey quick question, so I am interested in getting a ps2->usb converter for my cobalt flux, but I don't want to get the new cb. What's the best converter that would work with windows vista?

First, tap the edges of the panels in the menus.

Second, have you unbowed your panels? They take about .040 seconds longer to return to position if you haven't, and it takes a matter of seconds. Just loosen the screws enough so that all the panels are flat rather than bowed.

Third, check the button config. Often, when you plug a controller in and let stepmania autocalibrate the buttons, it'll set the buttons to "controller mode" (O = right, X = down, etc), which will give you a lot of easily fixable ghosting with a CF which you wouldn't usually get with a TX-1000.

Good luck
-DT

Okay, so I received a Cobalt Flux last Friday or so. Already, I am having issues -- the up arrow was screwing up after I removed the wood square in the center panel, but I took care of that with some black electrical tape; however, the current issue is that the pad is not slip-proof -- even with the non-slip tabs although I currently have it on slippery gray mats right beside my TX-1000 to keep it from sliding sideways (which appears to have worsened the slipping by sliding it backwards frust.gif ). The thing irritated the heck out of me today -- I could not tell whether the misses were because of the buttons not responding properly or the pad slipping around (I suspected the latter). The pad was ordered last Sunday with four-day shipping (I assume Sunday was not considered a business day since the pad arrived about five days after we ordered). It does not seem great for what was supposed to be a high-quality pad with a great reputation. I am beginning to wonder whether I should just send it back. I could use some advice/suggestions.

It takes quite a bit of getting used to. I used to always miss arrows, but after constantly playing on it I adjusted to it. Regarding slipping, try putting it on a wooden board. It might not completely eliminate the slipping but it'll definitely decrease it.

So I've been wanting to get a CF pad for years now, I mean YEARS. I finally got it from Best Buy's Website for $239.99 and $40 shipping should be here by the end of the month. great price I think.

Anybody know if there is a difference between the pads from Best Buy v.s. ordering strait from Cobalt Flux?
I think it's the control box actually... only for PS2.
Any cheaper control boxes for USB other than $30 from CF?

I will definitely be buying the black textured mod-kit.
CAN'T WAIT

Get the EMS USB2 PS2 to USB Gun Adaptor. It works for all sorts of PS2 controllers, and you can use it for many things other than DDR. It also has two ports, so you can play 2-player, doubles, etc. It's really great if you like emulators.

I doubt there's any difference in the pad itself--there might be a difference in warranty though.

I ordered one online from best buy because it was alot cheaper. After shipping and taxes it cost just under $300. It arrived in like a week. The control box has every connection it should, including USB so Stepmania recognized it right away. it's way more accurate than SN at the arcade, so my scores have gone up. If you don't already have a dance pad that you are satisfied with then buy one of these right away. So as far as I know, the pad from Best Buy isn't any different than the pad from the cobalt flux website.

I might be like one of nine people ever to do this but I killed my rear sensor. I cannot fix it. Dealing with CF tech support is not helpful and will ultimately cost me 100+ dollars. Where can I take one these things to get it fixed for NOT 100 dollars shipping? I am quite tired of owning a glorified 50 lb paperweight.
